Re: Casual Gaming - brainstorm
Agreed, that particular situation would be low reward.
But there can be offshoots of that saying, go to unreg sector bla bla and look for pirates. And hell the game can even make AI pirates appear now so its not even a waste of time. The more I think about it, the more excited I'm getting about this AI system |

Re: Casual Gaming - brainstorm
I like the idea of "station missions". I'm also of the "not enough time to play" sector. Then again, when Jumpgate Evolution goes Beta or even Retail, the time may suddenly become "available" and to heck with my family life, etc.

Re: Casual Gaming - brainstorm
LOL WB. I used to get so much more time online in games than I seem to nowdays so this short mission concept is very interesting to me too. Im hoping each sector has enough of an ecosystem in itself in Jumpgate Evolution so that there could be a plethora of short missions (with smaller rewards than the longer game missions). After all at this stage in the game for mission structure the limit is just the imagination of the programmers...
Short combat style missions could be done. Short building repair missions Short in sector mining missions (goto the roid at coords x,y,z and bring us its specific ores <spawns roid>) Short manufacturing missions (using commods <comods listed> goto factory x (in same sector) and make x number of y's) Short courier (My wif*cough* the comms clerk on orbital station x wants this package delivered, please do so for xcredits) Stuff to keep us oldies with jobs, kids, college, sports *LOL*, drinking to do etc logging in when time is short and we have just 20 mins ![]() We wont know if it will be like that without more info but that is what I hope anyway. |

Re: Casual Gaming - brainstorm
Personally, I think Jumpgate Classic is accessible to a casual gamer -- but I agree with voicing the concern that Jumpgate Evolution remains that way. But in a more complex game (which I assume Jumpgate Evolution will be) there has to be different ways to "succeed" that reward the casual gamer and the hardcore gamer in different ways -- so that both can feel satisfaction from their experience.
For example, perhaps a casual gamer should be able to make cash at a level where playing is a challenge but not a chore; but they should not necessarily be able to afford "luxuries" like their own stations, the largest ships, etc. |

See, I don't really agree here. If you don't have much time to play, you can't even really get around the universe, so you end up taking one mission, completing it, and logging off. About the only time you can casually game is if you already have lots of money, and there is already a fight going on. Even with large numbers back in the day I remember roaming around (or roiding in some cases) for hours waiting for a fight. This has to be figured out and shortened somehow.... |

Re: Casual Gaming - brainstorm
My experience with Jumpgate was that once you have done most types of activities and a bit of boredom sat in, you log in an chat if you have only a short amount of time. If only there were new and changing things to do in an hour.

Yeah, but who wants to pay a monthly subscription to chat? You can do that for free elsewhere.
We need more stuff to do in short amounts of time. Single person story lines that you can do at your own pace. Short, yet still rewarding missions, hopefully with some sort of RP base. |
