Re: Cinematic
I was watching Age of Conan trailers the other day, first a really well done Cinematic trailer with some king preparing for war or something. And some awesome fight scenes.
Then I watched actual game play video. Witch is nothing like the cinematic. Most people know that cinematic trailers are not the actual game play. But as Lordopic said, its the feel you get from these the first time you start to play the game or even before purchasing a new game. I think they are really important for promoting a game. They often show a clip in the storyline, so it kind of shows you what the game is about without having to read 10 pages of text. All movie trailers are like this, and thats why movies with best put together trailers sell most. No movie trailer shows you 10 min unedited of actual movie, cause it doesn't say much about it anyways, and its boring, confusing and so on.. |

Re: Cinematic
of course it might be hard to convey the full scale of Jumpgate.
I mean is it really possible to emulate the excitement of hauling a tow load of uranium halfway across space in a couple minutes of video? or even better yet, docking said tow load of uranium without AB? its something you just have to experience firsthand. ![]() |

Appleseed was beautiful, but the story was a little cliche. ![]() While I completely agree with Eraser55 about people knowing trailers aren't real gameplay, I also remember some of the best games I've played in the past had trailers that gave me a certain feeling that was eventually found in the game. You know, the point in the game when you go, "AH! I'm totally doing the crap in the movie, sweet!" Even if it's not accurate and your emotions are totally screwing up the memories (ie the trailer was nothing like what you were doing), being fooled like that feels awesome. ![]() You know, like when you first wrapped a tow cable around an AT-AT. ![]() My personal trailer was watching my buddy Merraton fight off LAWNMOWER around QC while chatting on Teamspeak. Since I had never seen a game with voice, or squad-dynamics before, I almost crapped my pants watching him. I am now married to him because of that day. (okay, not really, but yes, the emotional attachment is very strong ) |

Re: Cinematic
I never had the full version of FRAPS and I never had a dual-core PC to run it decently. I always wanted to personally do all those "tutorial" movies for Jumpgate classic but could never get the damn thing running worth a damn. Oh well, c'est la vie.
I'm signing up for the Beta Cinematic Trailer list right now. ![]() EDIT: Haha, for shi-s and giggles I looked up my threads and found my original "I want to make movies to help the n00bs" thread. ![]() |
