Current pilot data as ancestral lineage in Jumpgate Evolution
I have been looking at some of the back-end stuff that I have worked on over the years and started wondering about pilot data. Obviously, Jumpgate Evolution is a new game and stats will be reset. There has been a lot of talk on many sites about what to do with veterans of Jumpgate and special things they have earned like beta medals and such. And on top of that we don't even know what kind of scale the word "evolution" will inflict on the time line. Assuming the word evolution sends us into the future, i have an idea.
Why not just freeze the current data pages when Jumpgate is shut down? Then when a pilot can prove who they were in Jumpgate they will have the option of having a family tree page in Jumpgate Evolution. So no matter what their current user name is in Jumpgate Evolution, they can point to their ancestor from the "Reconstruction Era." This would allow players to keep their stats in a way that does not infect the new game. These would be static pages once the game ends so the overhead would be minimal. Thoughts? |

Re: Current pilot data as ancestral lineage
Great idea Jump, but considering all the problems I have had in the past with Billing and trying to prove who the hell I am, etc, I am not optomistic as to how well that function (proving our providence) will work.

Re: Current pilot data as ancestral lineage
That's easily fixed. If there is a problem, then they can turn on that accounts access to the old JOSSH forum again and if that person can log in and post a request under that account then they are good to go. Lot's of ways around the issue. Though, someone will always have a problem. Sometimes that just can't be helped.

Re: Current pilot data as ancestral lineage
I'll probably create an entirely new character, although I do like some of my names.
I honestly wish the two games were LESS well connected, so people won't come to Jumpgate Evolution expecting it to have features of the original, only to be disappointed that it has changed. |

Re: Current pilot data as ancestral lineage
Dude I had a **** ton of hours, I played for 18-20 hours a day for about 9 months when I was employed, and at least 5 hours a day for around 6 months after that. I had all the stats, but I've been TRI-C for years now so I have no doubt in my mind they "cleaned" me out by now.
