Custom HUD
I haven't seen this metioned anywhere, and if it has, blame JSRs crappy forum search for me bringing it up again.
Of course, I'm suggesting they keep the ability to create your own custom HUDs in Jumpgate Evolution. |

Jumpgate Evolution will have flash based huds which they say will be at least somewhat customizable.

Guys, you need to just move beyond the whole "customize my HUD"
concept that we have from Jumpgate. In Jumpgate Evolution, it's just going to be a whole new ballgame. From what I have seen with the interface so far you will be able to customize more than you could ever imagine from Jumpgate memories. I just hope they do it with xml files so anyone of you can do it. |

From what scorch told us as well as the 20 or so topics on the net it will be the case. The entire HUD "should" be customizable. I assume the level of customisation and flare will be entirely dependant on the abilities of the modder as was the case with Jumpgate Classic. THe skill sets required will obviously be different with the UI being in Flash instead of static image files but the opportunity will be there.

Well, from what some of us were told today, they are trying to implement a xml compiler for it that will allow anyone to just use a base xml template that has customized values. If this is the case then you would just need to learn how to change the xml values and create the artwork. This would give us more people creating HUD's and probably better ones. There are a lot of great artists out there (not me), far more than people that know flash and can do the art.

Guess that answers my question. Honestly, it really won't be much of an issue with me, as long as the default hud is "unobtrusive". That was the whole reason I made a custom hud on the old Jumpgate in the first place.

I would be interested to hear from someone with a Flash programming background on what is possible.
I assume Flash is Turing complete or at least can call out to a helper program to do the number crunching. I assume the Flash UI/HUD overlays the drawn space scene. I am wondering given access to raw data (attitude, velocity vector, target position vector, target velocity vector) whether something like a single death circle gunsight is possible. The single death circle replacing the current two part Duelist gunsight. |
