Re: Customization....
I would much rather be able to customize the 'guts' of a ship in a meaningful way (more speed, or power, or manueverablity)...but having a squad logo would be killer.
Maybe each ship model could have a designated area where you could put on the squad colors and logo, but not color the entire ship so things dont get out of hand. Also probably need an approval process for logos. |

Re: Customization....
I'm in favor of ship skin customization as stated above. How so ever, I really like the idea of being able to "hot rod" a ship, perhaps a pirate station where we could get illegal modifications, such as putting war-ship-grade-engines into a hauler at the expense of cargo space, etc. Perhaps only as Artys since they are "one-shot" mods that go away with a pod ride.

Re: Customization....
I recall the custom skins idea from some time ago, and whilst I would find it cool and a nice addition, I also remember that the issue then was the potential amount of data that would have to be transferred back and forth to allow everybody to see them. Anyone who has ever played Counterstrike with it's silly custom spray logos will know what I mean.
Player A makes a skin that writes 'I brake for Emma' on the back of his freighter, so that needs to be loaded up to the server, and then distributed to players B to Z. Player B does his own skin, and everyone else has to load it up, too. I imagine that the textures in Jumpgate Evolution are going to be bigger than they are now, so I wouldn't underestimate the amount of data involoved. Not to mention the potential for abuse. |

Re: Customization....
Aces High II has approved skins that are user created. You submit them and if they pass the mustard they get uploaded to the entire game. Of course in that game they have to be historical, but something like that could work if skin designers had set guidlines to work with.

Re: Customization....
I've never had a problem with CounterStrike spray's. Unless you count porn as a problem... I mean I've never had a bandwidth problem with them.
I like the review and update process idea though. Just have someone who's job is to review squad logo's and post them to the server. It couldn't take more then an hour a day, right? Hrm... Maybe even get Empowered Players to do it. |

Re: Customization....
Custom squad-logos would be cool yeah.
A certain amount of different ship-skins would be a nice addition, too. What I have in my mind, for example: 3 different skins, 1. normal skin provided by the faction, 2. a "slum"-skin that can only be changed at unreg-station and could be used by criminals/rebels/pilots that aren`t bound to theire faction and 3. in Jumpgate Classic it would be a hyperial or Amananthii skin, cause those factions aren`t "playable", only in a RP-style of way. Errm, regarding the current screen-shots, there aren`t any Faction-symbols on the ships anymore, so this might be irrelevant. ![]() |
