Ok I know this is crazy idea but hey, almost all of them in here are.

Economic expansion and decline system.

Since, we might have a working economy, rules would apply to the stations and facilities in space. Economy drives those buildings. New building would be built in an area where there is an activity, trade, or mining increase. They need to be maintained and for that it needs recources and $$. If a building or station is not maintained (not all of them though, some would be permament) it is designated to be abandoned or even scraped for junk (there is money in all that metal ). It could be also a small FM. We all love to blow stuff up .

What are the benefits?
-space is dynamic, stations are being built and destroyed based on the pattern of traffic or activity.
-more to do for players


Of course the biggest problem is to decide what are the factors that a sector is busy (or a portion of a sector), and what should be built there?

Dynamic space, I like that a lot!

It would make sense for TRI to identify trade hotspots when they develop after a certain period of intense ecomonic activity. These hotspots would have to be more heavily defended due to increased risk of pirate activity, have bigger and better stations to accomodate the large amount of traffic, and it would also make them very desirable places for the building of POS's.

Perhaps make the hotspots depend on a certain amount of turnover or profit generated, amount of ore delivered or equipment bought, anything, really, or a combination of things. The development could go through several stages, and generate some sort of local mini FM, like you said, that people could participate in if it suited their own economic purposes. Projects planned could be to build extra defensive systems in the sector, or a few CPs, ore depots, company HQs (giving rise to FMs issued by companies? CMs?) that would increase the output of types of equipment that's in heavy demand - the possibilities are quite endless.

Anything that expands economic potential gets my vote and thumbs-up.
