Re: ejecting to save materials

My idea had no "selective" ejection -- it was definitely "all of nothing." Regarding radar signatures, my concern was that a pirating "team" could have one "ripper" and another "locator" (in a Ranger perhaps) where the locator looks for something to pop-up on radar.

An alternative would be to have the CargoPods go farther out (say 50k-90k) and be detectable on any radar, but have them act like POSes where the owner can target them from any distance.

In all farness, in EvE, you can select cargo, put it in a pod, and eject the pod, your not ejecting any part of your hull.

And I always like that, it was really great for mining cause you could have some massive miner ships, fill up the cargo, drop it, and have a huge transport ship ferry back and forth while everyone mines.

I'm against this. If you mess up, you should pay the price. This is a 'get-out-of-jail-free' card that you can use at any time.

meh.

I think there's lots of uses for it. And it's not get out of jail free, since besides losing the ship, time and other things, you also lose a significant portion of your cargo. And you don't get any of it back unless you can make it out there to recover it. If you're really worried about it, there could even be a higher probability of destruction for valuable cargo.

"Pickup, aisle 7." Man, I loved those tractor beams.

Sorry, wasn't trying to put words in your mouth. That was more of just a general concern than any particular criticism of your suggestion.

Re: ejecting to save materials

some form of temporary in space storage of cargo would be good, especialy if it could be robbed.

I agree (of course) that it should not be a "winbutton" but it's not entirely "free" as suggested -- you have to come back and get it . . . and the pirates/ne're-do-wells may still be about (cloaked? roided?) . . . or someone may get there and find them before you.

In another thread, a time limit was suggested . . . perhaps a 24-hour period before the CargoPod loses its hull integrity.

Re: ejecting to save materials in Jumpgate Evolution

Sorry Badger I think your oversimplifying what would be a very automated procedure. It would be possible to eject any portion of what your hauling instead of all because in the future technology would allow it. It might not be as easy as you think the doors dont just open and dump, material is beamed aboard and out at stations, the only time something is dumped is when the ship explodes. Also when I started this thread I meant that people would have maybe 30 seconds to decide what 1THING they could selectively eject. Its not always going to be possible to return to get it, after all you died here on your best day. I also wanted a timer of maybe 30 minutes then space just destroyed it. No big acumulation of goods floating around bad areas, no pirates blowing up people and taking their best stuff, (if that was happening to me I would NOT eject anything good, let it be destroyed so rippers get nothing). So you see, it was just a way to allow us one chence at the last possible minute, to save something we may not get anyway.lol
