How about this. Your mining, and on your way back you run out of fuel, now you have a heavy ship with no brakes or engine and you smack into something. How fun is that? Now on to even bigger problems. Space battle. Your a pirate, your roided for freaking ever, finally get someone to PoD, they say no, you chase them and finally down them. Now your on your way back to a station to refuel and due to all the chasing you are really low on fuel. Your almost there and a fresh bounty hunter shows up. He gets to /win because of said rule. There is no help for pirates, so its yet another crap reason to not even play if you don't want to be a carebear. Or... Huge factional battle, your low on armor, your running, your evading like a bad ass, everyone is like get him get him, your home free, you did your job as an exceptional pilot, your scott free, boom, no more fuel. Now your a sitting duck for no good reason. I'm sorry but I disagree with main engines requiring fuel 110% |

To me, this looks like one more instance of the running debate between those who like to be both mentally and physically challenged by games -- and those who do not (with many shades of grey between). |

I've been in the situation where I've been in a huge battle in sol space and not had a chance to land safely until I got all the way to the other side of the map. Its not that I was not trying, its that I was literally being lit up at every turn. Attempted speed docks denied by bombers camping tubes, gate camping, scouts and rangers chasing, arty tenses, fresh reinforcments, etc. Hell I was out of AB fuel 1/10th of the way through the flight. It was a hell of a work out, but extremely gratifying knowing that I was able to out pilot that many people. Had I had limited fuel it would have never happened, I would have run out of fuel and just been a sitting duck. |

Re: Fuel
Your mining and heavy. You head back to your station of choice and are approached by an enemy. He chases you with intent to kill. He is not too bright and realizes he has been out too long and running out of fuel. He's not too bright but he is not stupid and breaks off and heads for fuel. You have now survived an encounter by natural statistical processes instead of being 100% guaranteed to die. And being 100% against the odds is not too fun.
This also adds a new role play for fuel delivery services. ![]() |

Re: Fuel
@net - How long was that fight you described? 20mins? an hour? I don't think if fuel were added that it would be able to be used up in 5mins flat. I accept that you may be assuming a small amount of fuel to highlight your point but if its done right i think it would be very interesting. Of course, if there's too much fuel (like 3 hours worth) then its moot anyway and only the dumbest of the dumb would ever run out.

Re: Fuel
Sorry net' and others, I was just suggesting a little something to make the game more immersive. Didn't mean to take the fun out of it for any of us.
It WOULD require much more planning, sort of like an ammo fighter or fluxer has to pay attention to remaining ammo as opposed to the never-ending lasers or running out of missiles or drop tanks, etc. It would also give new meaning to "efficiency" instead of just "power". Do I chose absolute top end or mission endurance. Do I get the strongest shield or the most efficient? Do I stop and fuel up at every opportunity or can I make it to my destination and back without refueling? Sort of like the NASCAR folks (where is KiaDevil when you need a NASCAR reference?). It would add another job for the non-combat pilot as a fuel truck delievery man in the "logistic supply ship" and give more reason for cooperation and non-combat interaction. I agree it would require a change in game play, but OMG the opportunities it would add to the game! |
