I do hope the new GM’s have a ounce of imagination, unlike the crap we have had in the past. |

Re: GM driven RP....
GM's are probably the largest ongoing expense. If the game gets a lot of subscribers I would NOT expect a proportional increase in GMs.
Also, GM events are usually 100% scripted with the outcome predetermined. Yawn. |

Re: GM driven RP....
The players created alot of rather interesting content in Jumpgate Classic using a limited toolset and palette of colors.
I'm hoping that Jumpgate Evolution equates to going from a 640x480 canvas and 16 colors, an eraser, a square and circle drawing tool to a full blown photoshop toolset at 1600x1200.... hmmm, not sure the parallel worked out there very well. In my opinion, GM led events turn a "simulation" into a game. I would rather exist as a cog in a simulation where the players drive the ebb and flow of events/policy/direction rather than chase the overpowered TRI vessel containing the secret dss disc that will ... Nevermind, I haven't had enough coffee to be able to verbalize things very well yet this morning. Maybe will try again in an hour LOL |

Re: GM driven RP....
GM RP is fine as long as the players have an opportunity to change the outcome and it isn't all pre-determined.
Player RP of course is fun as well and we've had all kinds of it. A full GM RP team would be nice, but I seriously doubt it will happen considering the expense that would be needed. Hopefully if we do get a GM though, it isn't like 4 hours a week or whatever we have now and we keep the same GM for a longer period of time (as long as it isn't Moll!) to help keep the stories consistent. |

Re: GM driven RP....
The mightygames GM Team set up allowed Jumpgate Classic to be a space based MMORPG.
The Themis/Netdevil GMK singular overlordship allows Jumpgate Classic to be a space based MMO only. ^That is NOT a eu/us discussion split point, or an invitation for the patriotic flag wavers to start another flame session. It is just an observation based on the popularity and variety of rp's run under each differing GM structure as viewed by an observer who has now played both for some time. RP teams are 110% definitely the way forward for Jumpgate Evolution. Yes, absolutely and affirmative. On the eu server I rp'd the insanely focused and unstoppable fluxer, on the wws I kill flux. There is a world of difference between the two and with so many GM restrictions on what is and isn't possible, what is 'cannon' and what isn't, it is actually impossible to do anything rp wise with flux - unless your our fav npc squad and have that special bond with GMK/I. In truth I had never even heard of the word cannon in that context till I started talking to GMK and although educational, such dialogues reassemble mostly the banging of your head against a brick wall. Imagination is the key to everything I think, its just some peoples keys are lost, bent, rusty or fixated on doing what's already been done. |

Re: GM driven RP....
its "canon" and I wasnt aware that Jumpgate had any beyond the back story that explains how the universe works.
And I totally agree with you. RP adds alot of flavor to the game, and it cant be scripted from start to finish. If I wanted that, I could go watch a movie |

Re: GM driven RP....
Don't expect much. Games like Jumpgate and Jumpgate Evolution have a lot of potential to be a MMORPG, but sadly, games that are completely static have been accepted as RPGs. I also would not be surprised at all if Jumpgate Evolution shipped with "GM" tools such as a banstick, but little in the way of interacting with the players. After all, it seems like they tried to make Jumpgate self-sustaining without GM intervention and had to add the tools as an afterthought. I wouldn't be surprised if that particular mistake got made again.
Why make a universe that can change and is dependent on having someone on the payroll when games like WoW are fantastically successfully being completely static? To be better that's why. I just hope ND is brave enough. |

Re: GM driven RP....
Darn it Grim! Take a chill pill or something. The very fact ND is bringing out Jumpgate Evolution is an indication things are going to be different (and hopefully) better! They may not be able to support a 10 member team to support RP, but I can't believe they'd make the same mistakes they made before (3DO and to a certain extent Themis). Jump Gate has always been a niche game and has gone where no one else has gone. Scorch has hung in with us so far, just like a double handful of players, so I'm willing to show a little patience and more optimism. WHEN the game gets here, THEN I'll sweat the details.

Re: GM driven RP....
I wouldn't count on much GM driven anything. The largest ongoing expense for any MMOG is the Live team. It takes thousands and thousands of subs to be able to support 1 GM, never mind an entire team.
