Re: Hide Player's Names in Sectors
I don't know.
In some respects I like the idea of hiding the names for many of the reasons listed. But one of the things about Jumpgate that was so fun was the notoriety that individual players could achieve. There was nothing more fun as a noob than seeing Chlorman's name pop up on global chat getting bounties and then actually seeing Chlorman flying around in Hyperial space while you were in a crappy Phaeton trying to do missions to Quant space. Granted, I am looking at everything from a PvP standpoint. And from a PvP standpoint I loved being able to see everyone's name. Not because you could target specific pilots, but because it gave a sense of comraderie amongst the pilots who nightly squared off against each other. You really get to know your other pilots when their name isn't hidden. And that was a major strength of Jumpgate IMO. |

Re: Hide Player's Names in Sectors
and if I was a bounty hunter.. and was looking for a pilot i would be just shooting everyone until I killed that pilot with bounty?
Im talking about private bounties set by other players.. But! Wouldn't it be great if it didn't show on a website Who is MT/Civ or Pirate??? If Jumpgate Evolution is still going to have tag system of course. I would like this to be removed. I mean, why would your enemy know how many Pilots you have ready for action, or how many pirates are flying. |

Re: Hide Player's Names in Sectors
I agree Dedsquirrl. And Karash, what about when you are flying with people of a different squad that happens frequently in Jumpgate. How will you know who is who? How will you be able to respond for a call for help? You eliminate some of the teamwork aspect of the game with these rules.

Re: Hide Player's Names in Sectors
First of all, why would I need help with a...ok...anyhow
I was going to work a version of this into my rather long and unfinished post regarding beacons..Which I think I will do now rather than hijack this thread. I like the idea in a number of respects though. |

Re: Hide Player's Names in Sectors
So as a wingleader how would you suggest leading a wing if you cannot name the target?
"Guys get him over there, no get him, no get him, no get him, no get him" Or "Get thet guy on my six(5 guys on my six all at 2.5k)" Or "Get the Lvl 26 in the Nix(several lvl 26 Nix 2.5k from my ass) Don't get me wrong, I'd love people not to know who I was to give me the advantage. But this seems like a badly thought out idea. Sorry, this is a badly thought out idea. It's not as much fun getting assfooked the second one jumps into sector, but learn how to deal with it. This to me just seems like a /win button, at least in my case it would be. Like someone said above also this is a MMO. Take away a name, what have you got? Regards Al |

Re: Hide Player's Names in Sectors
I started off thinking this was a great idea... now im not so sure.
However, in wwiiol we use combat comes like:

Re: Hide Player's Names in Sectors
The guys I currently fly with I believe to be some of the best that have played, although they do frequently, even they can't read my mind that well

I wrote about it in my fictional post, but for example, if Karash is leading a flight of us into a combat sector, the enemy is 20k out. He could by use of a mouse click on a member of his squad, target an enemy ship and hit the letter "a" to assign it to that squad member. He could assign multiple squad members to the same target very quickly or have hot-keys with simple generic objectives (PWD missle duty, "runner" intercept etc). Though there are a dozen dozen areas of potential improvement, the tactical combat interface area is one that would go a long way towards some of our playstyles. How to handle the "designation" of a leader etc is of course some of the challenges (LMAO "LFG for Solrain ship destruction pst") |

Re: Hide Player's Names in Sectors
A button designated to set primary and secondary targets could be implimented easy. Wing Leader has someone targeted, push the "Broadcast: Target" button you have mapped up and everyone gets a bullseye on their overview/HUD on that ship. If he queues it up multiple times the 'bullseye' icon gets a 1, 2, 3, etc..
There are many tactical commands on vox you can give when fighting within a fleet: "Concentrate on the MFs first, then go for the LFs"...or "Kill the Condor, its set up with ECM"....or "Stick with your wingman, let him designate your target"...etc. There would obviously be needed targeting upgrades and CIC stuff put in Jumpgate Evolution to make this work. This idea would not work in Jumpgate Classic. As far as losing the name in relation to MMOs, I really dont have an opinion on that and unconcerned. However, I do see the point and people want to be view as infamous when entering a sector, etc...just never really thought of that angle before. |

Re: Hide Player's Names in Sectors
as someone who is often ganked immediately, i'd love the ability to hide my name. however, the reason Jumpgate is so great is because we all have our reputations we can build, and hiding our name would hinder our reputation building abilities.
perhaps an ecm you could buy to replace your name with a fake alias of your choosing so the enemy could still reference you. You're alias would show up perhaps in a different font color to indicate it's an alias and not the fighters real name. this would prevent people from impersonating others. |
