About This Page About This Page: This is a discussion on How does cargo work in jge? within the Jumpgate Evolution Suggestions and Ideas forums, part of the Jumpgate Evolution Forums category, at Joystick Required Forums. Cargo should not be completely destroyed when a ship goes boom. A certain % should survive to be salvaged. Though I do like the thought of the cloaking cargo box.

Nice idea.

@Slim - As for the realism of having debris... think about it. If they are implementing it in a simulationist fashion, then there will be a variable component. In that, some of the cargo will always be destroyed and sometimes there will be "salvage". This is realistic in my view. If you consider the composition and design of a tow for example, there is almost nothing in the middle except cargo. If the cargo is non-explosive, and you down a tow, then effectively you are destroying the head and/or a$$ and nothing in between.

I also think that some ship systems should occasionally survive destruction like possibly a radar or an engine (if there were multiple) or something. There is also the possibility of recycling some of the materials left behind live the metals of the hull bits. Scrap metal could be something the pirates or scavengers could make a credit off if they took it to a recycling centre.

Just some random thoughts, pick away

Re: How does cargo work?

Jonboy and Jumps solutions in the "salvage" thread offer a workable compromise that I could support with the "vector/velocity" component added to keep space junk out of the main flight paths.

Re: How does cargo work?

dahalb, salvage is just,,,so,,, inherently distastful, in my mind.

First, there has to be some poor sap, whos ship has been blown up, by who cares. Then vultures, flying around within two mins, scarfing up the remains. All under the guise of, this is fun, or we cant let this go to waste, while the original owner is packing his bags for some friendler game.

The scavergers, will never haul, never put anything on the line. Just sit around waiting for someone to blow up. Its realy another slap in the face to those who have flown, with clumsy ships, packed with half their total worth.

I cant go on, my mind conjers up nasty things to say. Sorry.

I wont let cargo salvage keep me from playing. So let the dogs lose.

Obviously you are not even taking the time to read the discussion. It was put that the original pilot would be able to collect their own cargo back before anyone else could.

And now the stupid signature twice?

It's not a signature. He types it every time. Signatures have the dividing line like you see in mine below.

It is a very poor sig.
I tend to disregard most of what people post as a rule if they have a stoopid sig.

OK, i think we've squished Slim enough now

Slim, if the original pilot who was blown up had first dibs on the salvage, how would that sit with you?

Re: How does cargo work?

First, thanks for all the insults.. i would expect nothing less from the EU..

Second, i read this thread and another one someone put up .. johnboy or somthing.

The convaluted sugestions, all come down to someone getting a pod ride. And others taking the cargo. Yes, there was somthing about a slip, rearanging the cargo into broke stuff, base commods. But, in between, there was also higher taxes on the hauler, as if getting his stuff blown up is not enough. Come on, if there is a cloaking device for cargo, why not the ship itself.

First dibs dont mean much, when the original pilot has minumal support, from his squad or faction. I dout the likes of Algore, would come to the rescue, for any small fry, burned up for his cargo. Mater of fact i see peeps saying, "either, sell me the slip for 1 credit or we shoot you for ever".

Sound like anyone you know?

Re: How does cargo work?

I think too many people are envisioning Jumpgate Evolution with 13 pilots online like Jumpgate. Most of the issues people bring up were never issues when there were 300 people online and I doubt they would be with 3000.
