How does cargo work in Jumpgate Evolution?
You will have to excuse me as I have been out of Jumpgate for quite some time, but how does Jumpgate handle cargo? When you pod somone, can you get thier cargo now? That was one thing that was missing from it from release and was never implemented while I was a playing.
Please tell me that it either was implemented or is planned to be implemented in Jumpgate Evolution! |

Re: How does cargo work?
Still just a dream. Not enough details on Jumpgate Evolution yet to know.

Re: How does cargo work?
umm... other than the fact that salvaging cargo from non-combat ships would ENCOURAGE attacking non-combat ships for profit. That was fine in Elite, a simple single player game. In Jumpgate Evolution I think it would be a very bad thing for the non-combat folks. This discussion has happened many times, here and elsewhere, and the paths are pretty well beaten down into ruts that I don't care to repeat. If it could be limited to NPC ships, that would be wonderful, but I doubt that would fly either.
Another problem would be persistent cargo, i.e. space debris in the main traffic lanes. How do you RP it being "cleaned" up if on one actually comes and gets it? |

Re: How does cargo work?
The answer to your question is no, to get their cargo you have to use a insight and a burglar.
If you POD some one your more likely get a missile up your jacks and then half their squad and any one that fancies a quick buck , MT or CIV chasseing you around the server. |

Re: How does cargo work?
Space debris/salvage and dump-able cargo should be included IMO. Its just more immersive that way to me.

Re: How does cargo work?
All technical concerns about the much-desired feature of salvageable cargo containers in Jumpgate Evolution have been solved on paper. Related social issues are still being contemplated and may await beta for a thorough examination.

Re: How does cargo work?
I need to put my two cents in,,
There are reasons why cargo needs to go poof when the ship does. I can haul some simple cargo to tease the foes, just for kicks. I can haul the last 100 hellrasers, also. Now, shoot me. I can haul explosives that make missles, for my faction, or squad. Cargo is a tool in the game, if its never destroyed, there is no stratigy in playing with it. There is nothing in the game that cant be replaced, rebuilt, restocked. The fact that a faction is without missles for a few days, should be acheavable. Floating boxes of cargo, for scavengers, is akin to sucking flux, a disgusting pratice. To me, its a buncha lamers wanting nothing to ever end,, "o yeh the ship burned, but theres cargo, floating about". Then we fight over the cargo.. then burn up the salvage ship,, then floating cargo, then,,,,egads. I hate the idea of salvage, period....... There is no reason for salvage, except to help criples, get things they cant, or are too lazy to get for themselvs. Salvage is cowards cargo.... I had that once, In prison. |

I surely hope ND puts a lot of thinking into this, because PERSONALLY I want to see it in the game. Probably for the same reasons that Karash does, because we have played a game with "cargo pods" and it added a TON to the game. Quote:
And again, you have a really gay signature.... |

Re: How does cargo work?
When i joined this forum, i promised myself i would not lable anyones game style, or put a title on a pratice, or tatic.
I apoligize to anyone i offended, with the lables, lamers, cowards, or criples. We have tools to extract cargo from haulers now. There is only one reason some want salvage, and thats to blow up someone, and get the cargo without commiting themselves to pirate tags. The current eco system is dependent on ores, commodites, and gear being hauled. If its blown up, its gone. That one, fact, helps keep haulers safer. In a sim, which i believe Jumpgate has labled its self, salvage would be under the control of the insurance company. In regulated space, one would see yellow tape, and guards around any salvage operation, soon after the event. In unregulated space, ones insurance, would be cancled until he jumped back into regulated space. To assume that salvage is up for grabs, to anyone to just come along and pick it up, is not realistc, in a simulation game. There has to be finality to some things, losses, costs, to ones actions. Having cargo go poof, is one of those that needs to be preserved,, Look out the window, Tell me what you see. I see a golden calf, Looking back at me. |
