As Netdevil does not have a distributor so far, they should have a big word about how the game is being distributed even if they choose or have to cooperate with a distributor.
Jumpgate Classic never got a package release afaik. Honestly I d REALLY like to buy Jumpgate Evolution. There have been other possibilities mentioned here like steam, bittorrent etc, which are all fine, but after having spent just too many hours on this game I d like to have something real in my hands for once, to remind me of it.
How about going different ways?

- You can get it via internet rather cheap.
- You can buy a standard Amaray case version that is only slightly more expensive
- Or you can buy the rather expensive collectors edition in a paper box.

I don t know how many units you need to justify anything more than an onilne release. But a nice cover being visible in the stores shouldn t be bad for business. For the collectors edition... they are often limited to 1000 pieces.. and given this hardcore fanbase 1000 units should be possible, especially with some nice gimmicks.

Generally I don t buy collectors editions, because the extra value doesn t gain me anything. But for Jumpgate Evolution I could already envision two things I d love to own.
First a nice cloth sector map, I d very much prefer that to a paper poster as I can iron out the folding lines from cloth.
Second a key pendant might be nice. Something formed like a button with the symbol of one faction or TRI. You could either put a sticker on the package, stating which pendant is in there or make us trade them ;-).

I m sure there are more ideas what would be a worthwhile addition. It just must not be cheap or easily broken. I d propose to make everything in the collectors edition somehow usefull, high quality and rock solid, just in order to state what Jumpgate Evolution and Netdevil stand for ;-).

Jumpgate Classic actually did have a retail release , but it was pretty limited. I am personally a huge fan of collectors editions. I have UO, WoW, EQ and even the giant Ultima Ascension box on my desk . I also love little nick nacks that make me feel more immersed in the game - the cloth maps in Ultima were always awesome.

I like your ideas for special items and I'd encourage other people to say what kinds of things they would like. We have our own ideas here of Jumpgate Evolution stuff we'd like to have to decorate our cubes with, but I've seen the community come up with some of the best ideas .

For distribution, I am totally loving STEAM. With a box being the "special edition".

First I was disapointed because amazon.com won t ship to Germany. But then I checked ebay and there was exactly one copy (even new) for sale in Germany. And it was actually sold by a small games vendor just 500 m from my home in Hamburg!

I call that crazy! (It s mine king0815! Mine! Maybe I ll let you watch it shortly though ;-) ).

I would want to buy a Jumpgate themed keyboard. On top of the keyboard there would be buttons macroed to Jumpgate. So you could have a button for Launch, Jump, Login(startgame), Communication buttons.. and other cool things..

Ship models (either pre-made or kits) would be nice. Glitzy space maps would also be nice. I have my original 3DO box with map, but it lacks the current Depot sectors as well as all of flux space, plus it's just glossy paper. Recruiting posters would be pretty neat as well.
