How about some custom producers in the sector that the station automatically creates all the needed commods for, and the mission is to take the commods, build some equipment and bring it back to the station?

Well, if huge cargo ships are developed, so big they can't dock in the station, Id have a quick mission to help either unload goodies or load stuff up. These missions would be both low exp/credits but easy to do for low levels and others.

Thats a great idea for a mission if there are ships too big for the station. But It just seems silly to me that there are ships so big they can't land, or dock in some fashion....

What if there is noone around, you have to just sit there and wait until someone finally comes by and will accept the mission? Or would the AI kick in at that point?

Perhaps the mega-haulers would BE AI?

Jump, you've covered most of the areas pretty well. With the time constraint in mind (30 minutes to an hour per mission) you can't have anything too complex or far off. I mean if the mission takes 5 minutes to complete, but 10 minutes to get there and 10 minutes to get back how attractive is that going to be? Mining is okay, particularly with a "go there, mine THAT and take it HERE" type mission. Same for flux clearing travel lanes or beacon maintenance, station/building repair/maintenance, etc.

It's got to be fun and/or rewarding and it's got to be fast. It has to be something that will work for newbs as well as seasoned vets with only a little bit of time to play between "getting off work" and "supper's ready" or between time to put the littles to bed and getting your tired butt horizontal also.

Well, you mentioned maintenence missions, how about a mission to replace a destroyed satelite. Just fly to coordinates and drop,(eject) satelite. Of course the flux or whoever destroyed the first one might still be around.

also maybe replace power cells mission, everything needs power, so what do you do when the baatterys get low? send someone out with new ones, get within maybe 50 meters with batteries on board and poof..batterys changed mission complete.

I like the idea of mega haulers, whether AI or not, that have to dock/attach outside of the station...and the idea of low lvl, low exp missions to unload them somehow. I think the more interaction you put in with stations, the external environment, and other players, the more enveloping and realistic the game is.

Why not make something ala Battlefield 2? A commander can send orders and it is up to players to accept or decline.

Maybe something like that should be enabled for all factions. A pilots with certain factional standing and high enough level would be prompted to do some kind of mission. It would be up to him/her to either accept or decline.
