Jumpgate Evolution Local Station Missions Proposal
There is another thread on game activities for players on the go. One of my ideas was local station missions. So I wanted to make a thread that only dealt with that subject. If you have general ideas for the game then post it over there. This is for ideas on Station Missions that can be don in 20 minutes to an hour. They will also have to be fun and serve a purpose for the persistent universe. This is not about what will or will not be in Jumpgate Evolution so don't get your panties in a wad if you don't like an idea. It's just a discussion. All missions must take place in the station sector or an adjoining sector. Remember, you are performing a mission for the specific station vs. the whole faction or TRI.
Patrol and Beacon Check This could be fly to several sector landmarks looking for interlopers and check the beacon while in route. Bonus for legitimate kills of enemy combatant. Mine a specific Element The mission would give you coordinates and an element to mine and return to the station. It would only be for elements used and in short supply at that station. Man a Station Turret Yes I said it, station turret. If there is a battle going on you could jump into an available turret like you do a new ship and help defend the station. Something to get those short on time or less experienced players involved in some form of PVP. Of course, the enemy should be able to disarm the turrets during the attack or it would not work. Repair and Maintenance Missions to repair the station, other buildings and facilities, and any defense mechanisms. If the people get lazy they will get their asses whooped more often. Work hard and glory of the empire can be achieved. Rescue Mission If someone takes a local station mission and comes under attack you are alerted and sent to assist that pilot. Recruit Training Mission Volunteer to help train new recruits on various tasks. Kind of like the "wing" command, or whatever it was called. Didn't I read a good suggestion about dynamically spawned flux as a mission type that would fit in this grouping? I liked that idea as well, in addition to these. (tho the turret one is my favorite, especially when paired by the repair mission).
I wonder though, given the extremely short length of most fights, if a repair mission could give a pilot enough time to actually respond before the fight were over. If that happened, how would the mission be scored? |

I'm not thinking of a repair mission during a fight. Except maybe a turret. We don't want to send our maintenance team into a heated battle now do we. Also, things would need repair just because of decay over time.
Keep in mind this is loosely based on the notion that sectors are big and full of things to do and see. |

Sure, i'm with you on that. I was thinking of the repair mission being a combat type thing (hull integrity, comm relays, turrets, shields, etc.) but the maintaining of stuff fits, too.
And if our maintenance staff weren't a bunch of wusies, they'd be happy to go to battle! Why, back in my day, maintenance teams were HAPPY for battle.. gave them a break from doing the real work. You ever see the mess that a sick space rat can leave when it chews on coolant tubes? Huh? Now _THAT_ is heavy action! Bah.. kids these days with their OSHA regs and 'managerial oversight'.. what a joke. Give me a _real_ maintenance crew any day. heh. |

That would create a lot of noise for the player to respond to.
I think for station missions, which is what this subject is for, it would be cool if you can choose to protect others doing those same station missions. |

Well hopefully ND can make notifications and chat 2 separate things this time around, I know they said they plan on doing a lot of work to the chat system....
I like your idea of "defense" or "escort" missions being able to be taken at the station, and hopefully allow the players to make a mission for people to pick up when they need escorts. If noone is around to take said escort mission, then the AI server can come into play and the player can decide if they want accept an AI as a wing.... |

What my idea is looking for is people won't need to ask for help. The system will identify that they are working in service for the station and when they are fired upon the notice will go out to nearby pilots on the "watch list" if you will. If no one is nearby or on the list then an AI would be sent to assist.
