Jumpgate Evolution Voice Chat idea
I'm hoping Jumpgate Evolution comes with integrated voice. Assuming it does, I think it would be really really awesome if you could join your own squad channel, but also have a 'public comm' with which you could hail other people to open communications with them. You know, like in the Star Trek stuff, how the little dude that shows up hails the enterprise, and the captain says "on screen" and all that. However, instead of you saying "on screen" the recipient accepts the hail or not.
Maybe if you accepted the hail you could still hear squad chat, but the volume would be reduced, and you could set the amount of that reduction (because squads will be various levels of noisy). There'd probably need to be a separate PTT key for it, or your squad and the hailing guy would hear whatever you said. |

I almost made this same suggestion last night, until I saw it had already been posted twice.
Voice Communications Integrated Voice Chat? The interesting points made in the other threads were: Quote:

My stand on it is that at least sector wide chat (or squad/faction only in sector) would be a really nice addition as we would be able to talk to people while fluxxing or PvPing without having to make sure everyone has the same software, connected to the correct server, configured correctly, its all just built in and works. Counterstike's voice comms are very nice, and very useful. Normally the team with more people talking win the rounds because you can call out enemy locations etc before you die. |

Re: Jumpgate Evolution Voice Chat idea
Well, I liked Aces High aproach a lot, being able to listen to folks talking in the same vicinity as you, that was awesome. What I dont like is that it can be exploited somehow making the awesome experience of being in Jumpgate Evolution not so awesome.
Is like being on CS and having a teammate that throws flash grenades when you're moving our or (worse) about to engage the enemy. Or like that moron that would switch to your team and follow you around with the knife and poking into you (friendly fire off) all the time. It can be annoying, really annoying. But, if you can 'mute' them, it could be good enough for me. ELP |

Re: Jumpgate Evolution Voice Chat idea
i love the that Ace High approach too, to limit spam i'd say make so only like 2 people can talk at the same time or something. just a thought.
true that this is the 21st century and typing, specially in a game where theres no time to type, is just old school. |

Re: Jumpgate Evolution Voice Chat idea
I am all for integrated chat. It works well in AD&D online. In AD&D it was group only chat.
I would be all for A hail system. It would be no different than sending a personal tell. The person can respond via voice chat or text or not at all. If the responder chooses text the whole conversation has to be in text. Why would anyone want to type when they can talk? Some people dont have sound on there PC, too cheep to get a head set (speekers and mike). Simply don't like talking. Personaly if I can talk I won't type. I'm just funny that way. |

I love typing! Especially while in the middle of killing swarms.

Re: Jumpgate Evolution Voice Chat idea
integrated voice chat means it's unfilterable compared to text chat, imagine a newbie either hearing rap gangsta music, or someone screamin "f-you!" and other nasty swearing words in the public space chat sector.
