Re: Make the flux a playable faction

Heck, let's add in a BUNCH more playable factions/races. Why limit it to only 3 playable factions, two non-flying factions and the conflux?

OOOH OOOH! I got an idea! As the number of players increases and space begins to seem "crowded", why not add newly discovered factions/races to play? They could be on the outer edges of "known" space or found through the exploration of anomalies that are then stabilized by new jumpgates!

Re: Make the flux a playable faction

As long as they couldn't dock at TRI stations like all the playable factions can do now. That would be a bit too much for me.

I used to be a marauding space pirate in real life, but I couldn't find work so I had to get a job in the military to make ends meet.

Re: Make the flux a playable faction

there's like, 16 ships per faction. that's probably a major reason why there are only 3, hehe.

making flux a playable race doesn't sound too bad, though. We should come up with some ground rules...

* They can only dock at their flux hive stations
* They spawn from flux space.
* They cant use TRI altered jumpgates, only anomolies
* They have their own routes for jumpgate travel, so their map would look different.
* Their entire society and economy depends on killing the newbie recruits of the other factions. =)

Re: Make the flux a playable faction

NO!

It would add so many problems Im not sure where to start, I play as a flux hunter not a PVP, player. Mixing the two would be a nightmare and you would lose another load of the player base who have zero interest in PVP giving people the option to fly as Conflux would thus force them and us into PVP.

Now make the Amanath a playable faction then were talking as we all know they/it is not Human in fact im not sure any one really knows what or who they are or were. Besides the Hyperials have always been on the lower end of the evolutionary scale of things so play as them ( if they are made playable )

Yes, god forbid you'd be forced to interact with other players in a way that goes beyond the worthless F5:chat banter. I dont know if you're aware of this, but you can spawn flux in the offline simulator. One wonders why you bother to log in.

I believe you will, in fact, find that most MMO players have a similar play style. (See WoW for example) I also don't think attacking his play style is at all productive, and is somewhat rude.

Aside from all that, I was thinking "Monster Play" like LOTRO has would work well in Jumpgate. Players should be able to control Flux, but strong limits would need to be placed as to how powerful the Flux would be.

Re: Make the flux a playable faction

Perhaps it's a bit rude of me to say, but if it were up to me, there would be no AI monsters in the game at all. Instead, all XP and Credits would come from player interaction with other players.

Having players control the flux is a great idea. It's important that the game say "THIS IS YOUR ENEMY" and show everyone exactly who they should hate/band together and fight. PvP and player interaction should be the entire point to the game. There should be controllable resources to take over also, so PvP has a purpose. Also, there should be contraband, to further create tension and a catalyst for RP. Having AI enemies that spawn in every sector and permeate every facet of the game's existence is a HUGE design flaw.

I'd also like to suggest that the conflux shouldn't be able to talk to people on F5 channel either. They should be completely isolated from the normal players.

Tritian, I never know whether I am supposed to laugh with you, or at you.

There is far more to MMO player interactions than just shooting people and worthless f5:chat as you seem to suggest (although you are particularly good at that worthless chat aspect - where was it I was supposed to shove a missile that time? anatomically impossible and an all time low point on chat I must say).

You should try some team events, some cooperative mining, swarm busting, hive busting, squad tours or any of the other multiplayer opportunities that call for interactions with players that don't involve potty mouthing and shooting people. Although with your particular view point, I would be watching my back if I was ever on the same team as you for any event.

I interact with players each and every time I log in to flight the flux, I engage in cooperative, multi player events and occurances that I feel is a truer reflection of a mmo than simply declaring that the only worthy interaction in an online game is where someone goes boom, which could be done over a lan in doom.

That is an interesting idea, but totally impractical for anyone trying to build a game with broad appeal. Given that, perhaps games like Jumpgate in particular, need to refine their scope of appeal. Anywho, there is no reason to remove the PvE from Jumpgate. It is actually better, IMO, than in most games. Example: WoW, everything is PvE based. PvP is a near afterthought as far as game progression goes (though I understand that has started to change). The problem with the PvE implementation in Jumpgate is that it is not a progressive, inspired enemy, which it should be, rather it is a constant, unchanging "principle" in the universe.

Wow, what a tangent. I should start another thread. To your original comment Trit, it would be a horrible waste to remove about 1/3 - 1/2 of the active pilots by removing PvE. It would be a better use of resources to help integrate the PvP/PvE camps into the same goals and ends...just with different means.
