Min cap on squads
Not sure if this has been stated, but one of my major issues is 1 man squads, I think that a min number of pilots say 5 or more before a squad can be formed. would add more to the belonging to something than the one lone squad....
just my $2.89 worth |

Re: Min cap on squads
Yeah, I brought this up somewhere else on this site. It's probably buried by now or in a varied topic thread. It is very annoying. At the very least there should be a Squad leader and 2 co-leaders who all have access to the squad tools so the abandoned squad problems are less likely to happen.

Re: Min cap on squads
I man squads are not really squads as they only have one person in them, but it was a cool way to get a tittle for the pilot, as for haveing a max number of pilots in a squad thats just daft.

Re: Min cap on squads
The default display on the squad page would be squads with 3 or more members. Put an option to display all so that people could see the squad if they truely have that desire.
If you are a member of a squad with less than 3 members the player will appear squadless in Game. 3 is an arbitrary number that I threw out, it can be any number from 2 to 10 and I would not care. |

Re: Min cap on squads
ventura's idea seems fine.
I still havent heard anyone give a valid reason why 1 man squads are bad, other then that they clutter the squad page. Implementing ventura's solution would solve that problem. I for one believe 1 man squads should stay in Jumpgate. |

Re: Min cap on squads
1 man is not a squad.
2 men are not a squad, a duo or pair would it be called.. 3 are beginning to look like a group, small squad, team.. in RL squads have SQ leader, a second in command, then if it is a big squad there are Section leaders(wing leaders) and so on.. so 1 man is not a squad. |

Re: Min cap on squads
I'm in favor of one man squads for two reasons.
I'm a loner by heart.. sure I fly around and hang out from people time to time but that doesn't mean I want to carry all the baggage they cause. By being in my own squad I could be friendly and fly around with multiple squads even though they were at war. Because I'm neutral to them all I'm largely left alone to do my thing.. and if I aid one side (deleiver FFs, or engines) the other side knows I'll aid them next. hmm guess I was sort of an arms dealer when I played. That is rather funny now that I look back at it. Now I'm sure the question being thought is why don't I just fly squadless? That is my second reason. Blind invites. I'm sure that in Evolution we will have more of the interface built right into the game and less will need to be done on outside websites. Typically MMOG players rarely if ever visit boards or websites. Going with this train of thought and the beleif that Evolution will be a huge success players from other games will come to Evolution. In these other games they will have had their groups build up members via blindly inviting people. Bigger is almost always better in these other games. A quick and easy fix to stop blind invites is to just allow players to form their own squads. If these squads grow in time is purely up to the players in question. At least they are given the chance to grow up if they so choose to. |

Re: Min cap on squads
I see your point but why not just allow people to turn off blind invites. Most of the games i have tried of late let you do this. Hence the second part of your argument becomes moot.
One of the arguments that has yet to come out for 1 man squads is that if you are seen to be part of a squad someone "may" be less inclined to kill you because they "might" fear retribution from your squaddies. Granted this is not the case with most PvPers, but the cowardly opportunist will avoid repercussions if they can. I'm still for a minimum tho sorry ![]() |
