I'd like to see an anti-missile modx that auto-fires when enemy missiles are in range. You'd still have to use a slot up that might be better used as an FF but that would be your choice depending on conditions. I always thought the PCMD....I don't know what it was called now.....was a very hard mod to use against missiles....hoping you judged the timing of activating it at the right time in the middle of a furball and being wrong most of the time. Almost noone I flew with used the current mod and we were in big hit box nixes....you were better off staying around a gate and having an extra FF. Might be nice to make an anti-missile mod useful enough for it to be a real choice.

Re: Missles

i'm not completely against missiles. i think they do have their place in the game in any/all scenarious. what i AM completely against is the uber missiles like the morningstar. i'm with tex/karash in that skills also need to be applied to missile use. even with the hitbox fix, the nix is still a missile magnet because it's slower than molasses in winter, but at least it can dodge one or two before going BOOM. either downgrade the amount of damage missiles cause, get rid of uber missiles like the morningstar, or add on a requirement for target lock (or all/any combination of the above). i actually miss the days of divebombs (madjackal, where are you?).

Re: Missles

What is this Nix hitbox fix you keep referring to?

Re: Missles

it's the same hitbox fix you're referring to. most people associate it as the 'nix hitbox fix' because it affected the nix the most. that, plus the reason why the missile hitboxes for ships were even looked at to begin with was due to a petition out on PJG about it. someone (luke, i think) also went into the sim to demonstrate where the hitbox was completely off on the ships. i should probably stop adding 'nix' to lessen the confusion.

Re: Missles

Do you mean when they changed the missiles that changed the likihood of ships, including nix's, to be hit?

Re: Missles

No, sentinels is referring to a problem with the way the missile hit detection system was coded. Gunfire hit detection models were set up to match the ship's shape (as many a pilot has found to their dismay, when targeting an Invader from above/below ). Missiles, however, used a spheroid shape whose boundaries were defined by the extreme points of the model. With the nix's wings drooping down and the long thin "neck", that meant a lot of what counted as a missile hit was, visually, empty space. The missile hit detection system was changed, a few years back, to conform to the actual ship model, resulting in a lot of the "hittable" space on the nix going away.

Other ships had the problem, but most weren't combat vessels, so they didn't get as many missiles fired at them to show proof of the problem, and none of the affected ships had the extremes of the nix.
