Missles

Along the same lines as the Flash Fire thread, with 100% sincerity, I would lose no sleep over all missles being removed from the game.

I seldom fired them as it felt like a cheap kill, I died most of the time forgetting I even had them and when fired at me while in a furball, if I was engaged, I mostly ignored them as people had the gall to shoot at me.

Hmm, there doesn't seem to be an asbestos flame suit emoticon.

Re: Missles

Missles are cool. They make pretty trails and almost always make a fleeing wounded quant go boom.

Tell me, have you had your helping of MS today?

Re: Missles

I prefer Stilletos, Hell Razors, and Sirruses.

Always fun to watch poor tensy to run away and go boom.

So that is a "no" to remove missiles.

Why? Only to get nasty F4's from Liet.

Re: Missles

Ah hell man, I usually died with them on my racks. But it was another card in the deck, and I really dont like removing options from pilots.

I was really posting to use that spam emote. Ive been looking for a place to use that since I saw it!

Re: Missles

Missiles were nice when you were flying solo. They could almost be half a wingman for 10-30 seconds back in the day.

Does Jumpgate Evolution need money sinks? I hope not, but if it does, missiles should stay. We should just learn how to use them effectively instead of the "Missiles are for pansy's" mentality that most of us enjoyed.

Re: Missles

If they do stay in the game, they should be a little more difficult to use than
"Target Chubain, hit M three times, wait for kill message."

Timed tracking with your recticle for a lock or some such mechanic.

And I still want a Cutlass Missle Cluster.
The Cutlass Supreme!

Re: Missles

Dont remove missiles they have their place... but remove them...

Have them require lock on.

Have anti missile ECM that distrupts the lock on routine and makes it harder to obtain lock on.

Have anti missile counter measures that are equiped in a pod (on missile slot) that contains X number of usage. Counter measures break the lock on of the missile once its in the air, it should NOT be 100%.

Re: Missles

It would be nice if there were more Anti-Missile type counters in the game.

Additionally the FOF method (Fire and Forget) has to fundamentally change. Bring skill back into USING missiles...not just DODGING them.

Re: Missles

FOF as you put it was heavily nerfed some time back. Around the time that most refer to the Nix hitbox being fixed.
Iirc there were no changes to the Nix hitbox, the missiles were infact changed which indirectly resolved the problem with the Nix being hit so easily by anything resembling a missile.

Al

Re: Missles

I always like how Falcon 4.0 uses the sidewinder. You have to aim the nose of your plane toward a heat source. When you select sidewinder, you hear the growl of the missle as its tracking a high IR signature. The faster and louder the growl, the more of a chance of hitting. When your pretty sure of a decent lock, you release the weapon.. there is no true, hard lock, but more of a lock ratio.

A higher faster growl from the missle means a better chance of hit than a lower, slower growl.

Of course the defender can deploy flares that turn sharply causing the missle to track the flare instead of his engine.
