So in my other thread talking about wanting more from the radar, I kind of hinted at another idea boiling around.
We all know modx slots. And we all know how important they are to us. They are our modifications, they are our upgrades, they are what can win a PvP fight. What I'm thinking of is, breaking it down some. When I was talking about the radar upgrades, I was wanting the ability to add functionality. Not really making it a full time thing, but something there if you want it. So this got me thinking about you would allow something like that, and the only way I can think of is to have a few "types" of modx. For example, the beloved flash fire. Obviously this would need to be in a class that can easily be balanced, so lets say an engine modx. Then you have the lovely duelist. I would think this would be an electronics upgrade. Personally I think my idea of radar improvements would fit here as well. Then of coarse you could have more types and more options to really make the ship yours. Perhaps a weapons modx, or a flight controls modx. Am I crazy or would this really add to the depth and allow players to really customize their ships to be their own style? |

Re: Modx slots rethought...
It would make more sense but would it be too complicated for the casual player is my only question. I know us Jumpcrack junkies would dig it, for the most part. I like options and more of them.

Re: Modx slots rethought...
Its really up to the design team on how complicated the modx system would be. If the ship building system is redesigned it could be worked through. Perhaps a step by step procedure for each major system with the modx changes at the same time.

Re: Modx slots rethought...
In the interview that shall not be mentioned, I came across this:
"To that end, they've put in two versions of space flight. There is a simplified version for the average player and an advanced engine for those who really want the full experience." IF this is truly something that is to BE in Jumpgate Evolution, then it makes sense there could/would be "simpler ships" for the more casual player and "advanced ships" for the hardcore Jumpgate addict. Either way I like the idea net. |

Re: Modx slots rethought...
I think there will always be some useless equipment. Think of this way, at some point there was a use, but something better came out, or you leveled up and could get the better stuff, etc. A lot of equipment was stepping stones for lower levels. Which if you didn't get a broker you actually had to use.
However there was so much money, and always people around that most newbs could just ask a higher level to hook them up with the best stuff. |

Re: Modx slots rethought...
However, stepping stones are bad. A player shouldn't be at a disadvantage based on level, except for perhaps the first 3 levels when he's just learning the ropes. Higher levels should offer more options, and not better stuff. Like when istvan kept rebalancing the shields and lasers to provide us with more options, but not to make 1 perfect and 2 useless...
