Money Sinks
One issue that people have (myself not so much, though I'm perhaps near that point now) in Jumpgate Classic is that the collection of wealth serves little purpose other than in the doing of it. In other words, once you make a billion credits there's not a heck of a lot to do with it. Though we know little about the economy of the future, I'm sure that there will still be people who will get very rich, and I intend for this thread to be used for suggestions of "money sinks". Things that a person can drop a large chunk of change on.
From what I understand the new implementation of POS will require the efforts of multiple pilots to purchase/maintain, though an ultra-rich person may be able to afford one solo. I think there needs to be more sinks than just that, or eventually the galaxy would just fill up with them again as that would pretty much be the only goal to use a fortune on. An idea I have is to have limited amounts of 'antique' ships available ever so often for purchase to people who meet certain requirements. PR, Rank, etc. By antique ships, I of course mean the ships from Jumpgate Classic. Just think how much fun it would be to roll into a battle with a who-knows-how-old Dragon that probably comparatively sucks to the new ships of the line. But, hey, if you have the cash why not? |

Re: Money Sinks
I'd prefer you find something more interesting to do than to buff a meaningless stat.
I'd prefer you weren't encouraged to buff a meaningless stat by constant mindless grinding in a game which is supposed to be combat-based. |

Re: Money Sinks
Well lets take it as given that there will be more to Jumpgate Evolution than just combat and that there will be some who play it that see combat as buffing stats. I think it safe to say ND are making a whole universe and not just recreating Allegiance with a Jumpgate twist for die hard launch and shoot types only.

Re: Money Sinks
I agree with the need for Money sinks. There are several reasons for this. One being high level players have so much cash that they currently bankroll entire equipment sets for lower level characters. While it sounds nice (and I have benefited from this myself) it really deprives the lower level character of the satisfaction of obtaining that gear by his/her own efforts.
Some additional ideas for money sinks. - Increase cost of fuel. And make it so that Pirate bases or Stations far off the beaten path charge you much more since it makes sense they'd have a harder time getting it. This also reinforces the Pirate play scheme since it makes a pirates Cost of Living high but the reward for snagging a nice large cargo possibly worth it. Which right now I don't see any benefit to being a pirate (correct me if i'm wrong). - Create a realistic Insurance program. Create a pseudo realistic Insurance company separate for each of the factions. Make these companies profitable and function how insurance functions in the real world. If you have more crashes you pay more. Certain ships should have risk factors added to them (ie - a Fighter should be more to insure than a transport (cargo aside)). And finally, this would actually reward players for good flying which after all reinforces what everyone LOVES about Jumpgate Classic... the emphasis on good flying. - Status Purchases. This could be in the form of ship paint jobs. Donations to factions for Reputation (with a limit)... etc. - Make starting a squad an expensive Venture. This kind of goes along with POS sinks. Though IMO I think only squads should get their own stations. Anyway, just some ideas... really a whole rebalancing of the economy is required. It needs to be adjusted so that you don't have to go out and grind just to be able to afford basic equipment, but that acquiring ridiculous wealth isn't effortless (which it is now). True, you have to do SOMETHING to acquire wealth in Jumpgate Classic but you can basically do whatever you want and become wealthy. I'd like to see fighter pilots and Fluxers not be nearly as wealthy as those that aid the economy and make items. Again, just my opinion. Anvil |

Re: Money Sinks
I'm not sure I see the need for "money sinks" when there won't be any matter farm money floating about. Just make sure there are no money faucets and you won't need sinks.

Re: Money Sinks
Theres not that much money in Jumpgate Classic really and besides, what does it really matter? I cant say that ive seen McP's billions gain him any real advantage over anyone, except maybe in that he can afford to buy a freighter load of aman PP's to sell to Hyp when others cant.
It just means they get nagged more by 2nd account'rs wanting loans ![]() |

Re: Money Sinks
You might be right Vorlon... I really would like to see the ability for higher levels to buy equipment that lower levels can't purchase themselves removed from the game.... I think....
I don't know anymore... One thing I DO know is that people like money (real or digital) and the accumulation of it as a goal should have SOME challenge though how much I do not know. Anvil |
