Music.
I'm sure a music overhaul is coming in the new game, so let's discuss!
Personally I think the Quantar station music was half of why i'd stay logged in so long. The rest of the Q flight music and unreg I found good as well. Oct and Sol I liked, but I didn't fly in that space for tons of hours like those pilots did so I can't really speak for its long term goodness. Regardless, I loved te atmospheric music in the stations a LOT, and the rest of the music I thought was done well on average, very well in some cases. Thoughts? |

Re: Music.
Wow, I thought I was the only one that liked the music.
I mean, it's not exactly Top 40 material, but the different factional themes really helped the sense of immersion. While the Solrain music did eventually get on my nerves, the style was really good at evoking that space opera feeling. However, when I took my first trip into Quant space and heard the music change at the GVB gate, I found it a little bit unsettling. It sounded foreign, dark, and heavy. No place for acquisitive tourists. Octavius, well, no wonder they're so militaristic when they listen to that semi-industrial techno all the time. Hearing different themes for Amananth and Hyperial was a nice touch as well, and the ambient-style music in unreg really made you feel alone. I hope they can pull off that sort of thing in the new game as well. |

Re: Music.
As I mentioned in another thread I always the sound was pretty well done in Jumpgate so I expect more of the same.
Personally however good the sound is in the new game I want to see a built in sound system in each ship (ISE?). It should be a fully featured media player, plays mp3's, cd's ogg's etc. Fast forward, rewind, play pause, playlists all built into it. How cool would that be. And how many people would splash into Emma because they were fiddling with it. Smeg |

Re: Music.
oct music makes me nervous.
anyway, after a year all the default factional music tracks got annoyign and I ended up turning it off. I usually just play MP3's while playing. BUT, its always good to have nice factional music tracks when you start off the game. my favorite is still quant after years and years of playing. |

Re: Music.
1) Make a folder on everyone's hard drive called "Music"
2) Code a simple Mp3 player into the client and call it the ship's "Radio" 3) Profit!! |

Re: Music.
I usually have JPR running in the background. It was really cool when they had live DJs and they would give news and reports about the universe. They would monitor the jpr channel and you could send in requests. It was hella cool.
I turned off the in-game music after about a week of playing as well. I did like jumping back into Solrain space and here that "Ahhhhh". Made me know I was finally home. ![]() |

I did change my unreg music though, by placing some renamed mp3 files in my Jumpgate directory. "Pushing the Sky" by Yoko Kanno from Cowboy Bebop was my preferred combat music, but it was always so annyoying how it would restart when you jumped sectors. I think that moving and renaming mp3's is easy enough and that an in game radio would be too... console? Just fix it so that if you're in the same faction space the music doesn't change until the track ends instead of every time you jump. |

Re: Music.
That feature is already in Jumpgate Classic now. What we dont have is a full featured MP3 player because then we have a very different licence for playing MP3s that is MUCH more expensive and frankly would not be as good as any number of MP3 players you could just run in the background anyway.
