Reasons I have had people leave Jumpgate from within my squad over the years.

Lack of server RP, long periods without official storylines, TRINN posts etc.
GM attitudes, see above, plus a few other niggles.
Community burn out, when the community turns cannibalistic.
The direct actions of pvp players, speaks for itself.
Gen Boredom, combos of the above.
Exams and RL stuff.
Other games.

Pos's have simply never come into it, but then my squad prefs pve as a purpose.

As for the pvp'rs vs pve'rs differences, they begin with the fundamental reason why people log in and while pve'rs are happy to leave the pvp'rs alone, it is seldom the case the other way round. And when the pvp'rs shout how that is not the spirit of MMO's, they are themselves missing the point. Its not about not interacting, there is plenty of pve interactions going on in game all the time, its specifically about not interacting with the pvp'r. The question that needs asking is why that is the case and the answer lies largely in these posts.

here are my reasons why POS's suck:
  • you have to be super rich to purchase one and maintain it. they were placed in game, basically, as a money-sink for the matfarm community. it really, truly sucks for a player as myself who doesn't really want to jump into a tow/freighter to fly around at 300v hauling heavy ass commods and/or sit there for hours and mine. it's not why I play the game.
  • they really did ruin Jumpgate for a LOT of pvpers. why is it that now most of the people playing are haulers/miners? sure, there are fights going on and lotsa MT's, but they're all fighting the same people every single time. it's almost as if we're playing counter-strike in space on a single server. eventually, you get bored and wanna meet new faces. not to mention that there's stiff competition out there in the gaming industry for players (WoW/EVE/etc) and Jumpgate seems to be at the rear of the class.
  • too many of them, all over the place. some players would rather dock at their own POS instead of faction stations. this is quite discouraging for new players logging in at faction stations, possibly needing help and no one's around. f5:chat doesn't really do much either, since most pilots on there are either off doing their own thing or don't want to be bothered with having to go out of their way to help newbs. also, some newbs don't even know about f5:chat. sure, it's in the manual but how many of us actually sit there and read the instructions before playing? hell, casual gamers such as myself just log in and start doing things, die a few times then get frustrated and quit. i think i've purchased about 4 games where i've gotten as far as level 1, find that the gameplay isn't all that intuitive, then just don't play anymore.
these are just my observations. and hearing some of my former squadmates on TS or F2, i'd have to say i'm not that far off the mark. you can say that POS's aren't the cause of it, that it's low online numbers. well, how did we get those low online numbers to begin with? POS's probably weren't the sole reason, but it was definitely one of the reasons. to say otherwise means you're in denial, weren't around before, didn't interact much with other players, never participated in any type of PVP or just plain selfish in wanting anything/everything for your own benefits.
Sorry but you do realise that I (the OP) am in OV the most active PvP squad in Jumpgate at the moment and for quite some time.

Sorry but your reasons seem a bit personal to me. You do not have to be super rich to buy one, they start at 10 mill.

Just because you personaly want to do nothing but shoot people in Jumpgate doesnt mean that everyone else should be at your beck and call. You dont want POS because the stupid PvE lot (that you want to shoot when you decide, without punishment) wont stock stations for you ?. Seriously guys get over yourselves

It can be argued that it's much better to focus on one thing (PVP or PVE) and do it right rather than trying to be all things to all people.

Its true for most games, but not Jumpgate, as it would make it's punchline of "Welcome to your next life... Theres nothing you cant do..." seem rather hollow.

That is a bumper sticker, not a design document. To date, NetDevil has said anything about the vision for Jumpgate Evolution.

What I meant was: "we have no idea if that slogan will continue in Jumpgate Evolution" cause scorch hasn't said anything yet.

Just because a station is destroyable doesnt mean you dont have a game mechanism to prevent 'station griefing' in attacking it off hours. Eve Online handles this very well. All stations are attackable, defendable, and repairable. However, attacking a station is usually a multi-day ordeal.
