Talking New Group/Class of Ships

I apologize if this is in the wrong forum or if it has been brought up before as I only visit here a few times a month. I have a suggestion for ND for another ship...or possibility for a group/class of ships. Having started out with Jumpgate in '02 while stationed in Korea and finishing up two years later, I notice I always played (or at least enjoyed playing with) others - DUH!!! I too even gave my time to help others with leveling. I thought it was fun revisiting areas and killing flux that were 'way too easy'. Call it a bad day and all I want to do is own something.

Moving on to my point...add a group of vehicles that may house multiple players. Such as a Gunship or Destroyer. Where you have one pilot and one or more gunners. Maybe a pilot, tactical officer and a gunner or two. I think this would help immerse newb's in to battle with a, lets say, 'more experienced player'...a player that has the level and credits to purchase such an animal.

Its been brought up, and some people avidly want it, and others avidly hate the idea.

I'd like to see it in Beta to see if it can be implemented and balanced with the rest of the game, but I'd be fine if the game were released with or without it.

I believe the proper term is "Capital Ships" and yes, it's a love it or hate it topic. Personally, I have no opinion as I have only played games without capital ships.

I wish people would use a forums search function before posting a new thread. That being said capital ships are a horrible idea for Jumpgate and if we're lucky they will not be implemented.

i think the idea of minor capital ships such as a gun boat are fine.minor meaning 1 to 2 people being a pilot and a gunner . It would not break the game and it would be good for people new to the game. I like the idea of it being ubber expensive and needing many commendations and such to purchase one though as it would balance things out somewhat. But thats just my 2 bits i guess

Thanks for the help on the search criteria Jump.

Sorry Sephiroth, after two hours of searching with a 30 second wait time between searches and over 300 threads and 7000 posts, I never thought to search for Capital Ships, or cap ships, or large ships. I guess my understand of what “I” wanted in the game was a bit different that what everyone else has already discussed and muscled there opinion on.

Cap ships to me means something along the lines of a carrier or destroyer (like a mobile station)…which I am sure (without searching yet again) has been brought up before. All “I” was saying was having a two or three man ship where each person has a task on board that ship. If the ship is destroyed, then all two/three die. Not launch from that ship and continue to fight the good fight in there totally autonomous ship. I apologize to all…I guess I didn’t think that this would have been such rough subject.

The whole goal of these MMO’s is to bring people together in a community they can call there own. I am still looking for some game that my handicap son and I can play together that doesn’t require a lot of hand eye coordination/movement. WoW and EVE are to complicated, BF is very fast paced, Jumpgate requires some degree of motor skills. The reason I wish for Jumpgate to work out Evolution with this function, is because it is not strictly PvP; meaning I can fly around packing another player without getting picked off ‘just cause’. If a ship that you can fly and have a gunner is available, then my son and I will be able to play and have fun together.

Thanks for your time and please open your minds to other peoples wants…for they may not only be wants, but needs.

Nothing wrong with wishing bud. Someone will always disagree so don't let it discourage you. Personally, I could never sit there and be a passenger, I have to fly. Same with cars, I have to drive.

The original Jumpgate is not strictly PvP either but just so you know it is non-consentual PvP which means people can pick you off "just cause". And if we're lucky Netdevil will keep that aspect of the game.

Bhodi, as others have said, this is a love hate topic. I would however, encourage you to ignore Sephiroth when he gets like this . Most ppl won't try to stomp on you while they disagree with you though sometimes that's harder said than done. I think perhaps he's had a bad day or something so don't feel too bad.

I think it's an idea with a lot of potential. Would there be a way to make the guns have serious difficulty targeting the smallest, fastest ships? That would encourage a wide diversity of ship types in fleet battles, and would prevent any single ship from functioning as an "I win" button

Absolutely. The turrets will have to have a speed limitation of targeting, just like every other ship. That was a major part in balancing the ships. Example the bombers and other larger ships would turn a bit slower than the smaller ships. So in effect you were supposed to be able to outmaneuver a large ship and win. However due to the heavy shielding using on large ships this wasnt really possible unless the pilot was extremely good at circling, and in most cases the small ship would need artifacts to bring their mass down so they could have enough acceleration. But still it would take a very very long time to bring the shields down on the larger ships, and then at that point the large ship would just run away because the smaller ships were too slow to keep up (in most cases)

anyone remember the 0 mass gusts? those were some hard to hit little buggers.

0 mass gusts with lag were even harder to hit.

I agree that capital ships and multi-pilot ships should be kept separate. Me-110, Apache, Mk IV Starfury (the right model?) are all twin-pilot, non-capital, ships. How much ass (butt) do you kick in Halo when you get two guys shooting rifles compared to two guys in a Warthog? (and how much fun do you have in each of these situations?)
