That's a fair point, right there.

But then, by the sounds of it, jumpgate.old won't be at all persistent with jumpgate.new

I guess it makes some sense that if the environment changes, the rules change, the flux change, heck even the physical running requirements of the game changes, then the pilots should probably change as well.

Re: New Question: Server Wipe?

I find it interesting that all the people calling for a wipe, DON'T EVEN PLAY THE DAMN GAME ANYMORE!

I do NOT want a wipe. But if it happens, I want all my credits and special medals. Let the new players see those that have been here and achieved something.

Re: New Question: Server Wipe?

I have no problem with a wipe if starting with a clean slate is needed for balance reasons. If the storyline continues and all we have done so far is actual "history" in the new game i think our pilot names and extra ordinary medals be carried over. If its a "revamp/alternate reality" type thing then everything is gone except maybe the beta pilot and opti medals which would be nothing more than a nod to those who have been around and done so much for jumpgate.

NO ONE PLAYS THE DAMN GAME ANYMORE!

That's why there is going to be changes no matter how much we fear it.

And for your information, this is not JOSSH and people that don't play the game are welcome and free to state their point of view without a shouting match arising. People that don't play the game anymore are the dominant species.

Anyone want to count how many of those that want a wipe in this thread are in fact playing?

Haha... that may be true... but don't take any wipe personally. I ran a NWN persistent world server in my basement, and when major revamps happened the wipe discussion was one big flame fest. Wipes are never done for punishment, and their consideration should only be for the betterment of the game. Truthfully, player pride or character fondness should never be a factor in if a wipe happens or not.

All in all... lets be careful on this topic. Discussions of things that we likely have NO control over and even if we did, probably shouldn't, will just end up on some nasty flame wars.

I oh so hate the wipe discussion...

Re: New Question: Server Wipe?

Lots of us play, if no one played then there wouldn't be a discussion about server wipes because there wouldn't be a server to wipe. Yes lots of players have left too, but of all of the reasons I've ever heard, all of the goodbyes I read, none of them have ever been because of stat envy.

Like I said ^, the games not Eve, medals, credits and exp aren't an advantage when it comes to the pointy ends of a set of thorns and if there's a perceived glut of money/exp in game then rather than deleting it, lets introduce something desirable that costs LOADS of credits and/or that feeds off of exp.

Re: New Question: Server Wipe?

I do play. I have never stopped playing. I understand how a wipe could be necessary. I don't love the idea, but I love the game and I tend to believe a wipe is probably right for the game (but not for me personally).

Why is everyone getting so riled, though? Has this been leaked somewhere?

There's that term "everyone" again. I don't see everyone here getting riled up. Everyone has their opinion and that's fine as long as they state facts and are civil without text shouting and over stating. A few though, like to come here and MS spam and jump back out of the sector not to bee seen again for awhile.

Re: New Question: Server Wipe?

Not that I know of Ambro. It's kind of the percieved extension of an impending Jumpgate revamp. Dunno why people get so riled up about it myself either. It's just as likely that, with the re-release, all the medals and ribbons on everyones JOSSH stat pages will cease to exist or have any meaning whatsoever. Three years from now some lvl 2 could ask me, "Hey whats that fancy green medal on your stat page mean?" and I could reply with "Oh that's my reward for being the most exceptionally skilled pilot in the history of Jumpgate for 12 years in a row" and he'd never be the wiser.
