Re: New Question: Server Wipe?

Hmmm...JumpGate II means a new computer (for me) to play it AND they're going to wipe out 6 years worth of my time and effort? Like Ambro, I've been here playing as often and as much as I can. I'm not going to childishly threaten to take my ball and go away if there's a wipe on top of everything else, but I'm not positive I'd come back just to have to start at the bottom and work my way up again.

I don't know about all of you, but I did NOT enjoy the leveling ladder experience. As to wealth, it's taken me 6 years to get to #113 with a piddling 425mc. I have 9 Glory Stars, #12 in missile hits, #24 in conflux kills, #25 in missions taken #26 in missions completed, #34 in missiles fired, #58 in deaths, #72 in shots hit and #91 in shots fired and #129 in bounty collected and you want me to give all that up to draw in some mythical new players so they won't feel diminished in my presence? Put me down as STRONGLY OPPOSED to any game wipe. Whether or not I would be opposed to the point of canceling is unknown. I hope I don't have to find out either.

I also fail to see how the lack of a wipe is going to hurt the new version. Would one of y'all explain it so this old fart can understand? Unless it's a totally new game, with little or no resemblance to what we have now, what would the wipe accomplish? If the game is basically the same, the vets are STILL going to have all their knowledge and developed skills (or lack of skill), so they are going to be in the same position to noobs as they are now, just minus the money, equipment and all signs of status they currently have. I fail to see the point.

Re: New Question: Server Wipe?

Well. if your 400 millions credits is sooooooo much harder to earn in the new game and if prices were 10 times less then now. then those 400 millions would affect the gameplay for those who just started.

and that would not be fair imho.

Re: New Question: Server Wipe?

I sorta got bored of checking my rankings when they started going up solely because people were TRICing. Woohoo, #1 in kills for a day, not like I earned it.

As long as I keep my farm* cash everythings ok. I would hate to have to worry about money, ever. More seriously, the current econ doesn't seem like a fun one to accumulate wealth in, but revamps can be revampish.

Re: New Question: Server Wipe?

Wipe it all!!

What have I lost?? Hours and and hours playing an old dying game. This is a new game, one I want to play. Why should I get an advantage over players playing (a similar game to the old one, but not the same one) for the first time?

Plus I want to feel that noob rush again!! Still want to be called Smegit tho, so the idea of holding back old user names (for a while) seems to be a good one.

Re: New Question: Server Wipe?

I don't play Jumpgate anymore, but want to. Time constraints and the like...you understand.

I say...Wipe it all!

I, for one, had lots of fun starting at zero, and did it several times. Several of my characters hit level 50...and revelled briefly before wiping it out and starting anew. This includes characters that I haven't publicized. It's easy to make money in the game, even with it's current limitations, so starting with zero credits would suit me just fine.

While others would whine about their 'losses', I'll welcome the challenge and triumph over it as always.

Medals and money...stats and rep...all can be regained. Since Jumpgate will be different (but enjoyable) to the likes of which you haven't seen, I will be ramping up my exploratory personae, and FF into the darkness of space to find relaxation.

I think you guys might be pleasantly surprised when it all comes to pass.

Re: New Question: Server Wipe?

Moo! (I want to keep my shinies. However, if there is no choice then I say any server wipe must be both supported by plot development and be total in its reach, as if there were another Great Collapse. Any partial wipes would be very hard to justify from a storyline development!)

If you're talking about me, I have been registered here for quite a while. Haven't posted much because most of what I have read here is posted by people that haven't played the game in years, but always want to make comments, and don't want to hear what people still playing have to say.

If you want to experience the game from the view point of a noob, with no cash or rank or whatever, reset. Problem solved.

That is an outright lie. We want to hear what all have to say in a civil way. You're the only one that is trying to silence those that disagree with you. You offend those here that do play the game as well as all the rest of the members of this community. If you don't want to be here then move on. But don't crap on the fine members of this community with your little drive by shootings. There are a lot of good people that come here that play Jumpgate, once played Jumpgate, and will again play Jumpgate. This is my website and I have paid thousands of dollars and spent countless hours building it and sustaining it just for Jumpgate. I can't even count the hours I have spent building Jumpgate tools for people I will never meet. So don't tell me what I deserve to say or not.

Re: New Question: Server Wipe?

If they've only redone the graphics, finished up the PvP patches, tweaked the econ and made flux ai more interesting, I'd have to say no wipe. If things have 'advanced' years and years, perhaps even hundreds of years, to where there are totally diffrent ships, and relationships between factions, expanded map and just all sorts of really new stuff, then I'd have to say, we definitely need a wipe.

That said, I like jumps idea of a 'TRI Pioneers' page, showing all callsigns stats for callsigns who made it to opti, or some other form of criteria to weed out the abandoned characters that never got played longer than a month or whatever.

If we really are hundreds of years in the future, we probably won't want to all use the same names anyways, but for former old Jumpgate pilots having a link on their new pilot page to their old pilot (if the pilot oks the revealing when he sets up his new pilot) would be cool, to make it easier to hunt up old friends.
