Penal Stations

An old idea softened a little for Jumpgate Evolution;

PENAL STATIONS

Each faction gets a penal station.

This is a station that ALL bountied pilots (bountied against that faction - inc temp bounties) go to when they have a 'with bounty-pod ride'.

This is the station that gives a place for the bounty hunters to lurk and for revenge to be sought on the culprits release after their initial and subsequent pod rides and a place for the criminals buddies to come 'bail him out' past the bounty hunters by bringing in equipment for the stations market.

The original idea had time outs and stuff but that sucked, this 1 just means that if you have a bounty, there's just 1 of three places your going - to the sol clink, the oct hell-hole or quantars temple of eternal forgiveness and atonement

Re: Penal Stations

ehhhh... not sure about that all its creates is a place where people log and wait or afk and wait....

Also ending up with a pod ride at a non stocked station is that is camped is makes an escape impossible and without an escape there is no way to work of a bounty.

So Id have to say no to this.

Re: Penal Stations

Yes, sounds to me as if you wanna make it impossible to work bountys of...
This would lead to gank fleets who camp stations hoping to get easy kills.

Re: Penal Stations

it would be a deterrent to getting a bounty would it not?

it would be interesting too if the penal sectors were a singular unregulated sector in the heart of each faction - then your mates can come 'bust you out' past the lurkers

As for it being unstocked - keep it stocked and earn your way into the good books of the bountied

Re: Penal Stations

Even as a merchant-type player who only PvPs on special occasions, I see the flaw in this. Its exactly what Tex said. If you just podded someone with a bounty, and you KNOW where they are going to respawn at.... you would have ample opportunity to go that way and blow them up again, or at least go blockade them. That's certainly no fun for the bountied player/soon-to-be-victim.

This is converse with the current setup of non-bountied pilots - being able to /home at one of several faction stations. I would leave this system in place, since it would seem to make sense that a person would want to /home at a location that was advantageous to them. That shouldn't be too big of a problem since they've obviously "learned their lesson" post-podding. :-)

I'm all for making bounties meaningful, but this is like swatting the baby with an axe for making a mess.

Re: Penal Stations

Ahh cool, so some pvp enthusiastic types want free reign to shoot civilians on their own terms, when they want, how they want and most importantly, wherever they want, but put them in an equivalently weak situation, where by they may not have the ability to defend against potential enemies and its "over kill"

lol

Maybe they should just hire escorts for when they launch from the clinker, or maybe they should form large squads for self protection and have them large squads be ready to help them depart from the jail station..

Double standards eh? Space is dangerous... lol Maybe having a bounty should be dangerous too?

Re: Penal Stations

Having a bounty is dangerous.

Hopefully tags will be removed in Jumpgate Evolution, but let's assume for a moment that the rules in Jumpgate Classic are the ones used in Jumpgate Evolution.

Any civ can attack a bountied pilot, if the bountied pilot retaliates his bounty increases if he succeeds. Bountied pilots are announced in sectors with beacons tuned, bountied pilots pay the bounty out of their own pocket.

The current bounty rules are in fact, way too harsh on anyone playing the bad guy. Having a bounty is incredibly dangerous.
