Planet docking
I think i dream a lot ...
But i give this idea : Do you think that it is possible to create space port on planet ? I mean, when approaching a planet we can see a large circle that represent the approach area (like on actual stations but larger). when stay in this circle, an animation come to show us our ship landing on a big space port where we can have shop, trade and other things that we can do on station but with some particularity related to the planet ( on a wood planet we can find better woods to trade but no technologies parts ). these planets would be at crossing in the universe, like a big exchange place. A place where all factions can trade. A place where there are pubs with all sorts of beer. Planet are rarely used in space sim (never?) and i think it could be a real add to help to immersion. hope you see what i mean ![]() cya |

... absolutely loving the idea... docking on the planet wouldn t even have to make that much sense for me (although a little sense would be nice ;-) ), but if it gives some more character to each planet it would be awesome.

Hmm... Planet landings would be nice, but difficult to handle. Smooth transition from space to planetary flight would be awesome but doubt it would happen. However, a moon base... that's more within "scale" and may be easier to do... It's defiantly something that would fill up some space in a sector and give people (and you know who you are) something bigger to crash into.

Space Flight had it as well. Plus the ability to bargain w/traders on the planets on SFII. (or at least I THINK the name was Space Flight)

But that was that game. This is Jumpgate. We've had hundreds of people in one sector with no lag and I am sure it will be even better in the new game. Either way, a station won't have any different lag that a planet. So both would be the same.
@Dolia would this be simply at the space port or do you imagine actually moving about the planet? |

no i only think about planet landing, not to walk around or fly around.
When i see planets in space sim, i always hope that i can land on it. |

Landing on a planet would be cool for whatever reason. As for the walking around, whilst it might be a neat idea I think the implementation problems will be enough to keep it off the drawing board for now.
If it were to be implemented it would need to be consistently applied which might mean on every station/planetbase/moonbase etc. The next obvious question is what level of interaction is there going to be. I.E. if I see someone in station can I knife/shoot them or is it simply a walk and talk thing with no real interaction? It sounds great but then doesnt that make Jumpgate more of an avatar based game with flying occurring to get some where so you can run around? I think it would be a delicate balance to maintain the integrity of what Jumpgate is. |
