I remember when I first started playing, I didn't understand insurance ratings.
My mentor would tell me to come to Wake station so we could go flux.
I would just splash my ship against a roid and pod back.
Finally Iceblade asked me how I always got back so quick.
When I told him, I could almost hear him slapping his forehead.

I must have racked up 100 deaths before I got into my first PvP fight.

Re: Player death caps

Bah, Death needs no meaning.

Somewhat less flippantly, permadeath is a lousy idea, even with a scheme like the example Eraser55 mentioned (though said scheme does reduce the suckitude, somewhat).

Re: Player death caps

Permadeath an outstanding idea, it would eliminate launching into one sided battles just for the fun of it. Eliminate any players who do not have an optimized PvP setup and finally get all those pesky noobs out of the game quickly.

I am all for it, while we are at it lets get one of those tag systems where you can not shoot certain players, no matter what they say on f4 or even in game chat.

Re: Player death caps

vorlon, did you just post this thread so you could use it to argue a stat-wipe of your Jumpgate Classic character???

If so, you're sneaky. If not, then NO, Permadeath is a BAD idea!!

What would happen to your stats if they shut down the Jumpgate Classic server when Jumpgate Evolution went live? I don't think I can see ND keeping Jumpgate Classic alive when you and... WildBill...? would be the only two playing Jumpgate Classic. However, if there are still enough people with paying accounts, enough to pay for the server, then by all means, I'm happy to let you keep your vorlon31 character on the Jumpgate Classic server with all his stats. Just don't expect to come to my Jumpgate Evolution server with your flux kills and your credits.

Re: Player death caps

The point is here that permadeath would never work in any MMOPG, we all know that. However, If I was playing SWG and decided to play WOW instead, I wouldn't expect all my stats and xp to be transferred between the games. They're different games.

Jumpgate and Jumpgate Evolution are different games. See?
