Re: POS conquest

Yeah now that i've thought about it more, Id rather see destroyable public buildings than private. But shields, drones etc on POS would still be cool.

Re: POS conquest

Did I miss something? Didn't ND make it clear that POS are in the game already?

As to station defense, I am all for being able to take over neutral stations rather than an individual POS.. there are a whole host of opportunities for both RP and gameplay that could result there.

Re: POS conquest

I don't think ND has said that in stone...

How about a public stations that you can land at, and take over, with turrets? Once the turret is blown up, your ship is ejected...

Re: POS conquest

In several ND interviews POS have been mentioned, so maybe not set in stone, but pretty quick drying concrete. However Ist also mentioned that they would be radically altered, possibly requiring multiple pilots to open and maintain one. So it looks like ND are listening to everyones valid concerns. Praise the lord!

P.S. I should have provided evidence in the form of links, but I'm way too tired. Go on, shoot me.

Re: POS conquest

Players will be able to own some sort of a station in space, not that it will be anything like a POS in Jumpgate Classic.

If an enemy docks, they might be able to take a portion of whatever is in your storage, or tamper with equipment and disable on of your addon pods.
While I like the idea, I suspect it will be roundly hated by non-PvPers. Perhaps a similar but less invasive approach would be simply to make them damageable (disable docking ring, disable R/R/R, disable ore refinery, disable open cargo space that is not filled). Once you start being able to take or damage inventory, the "don't force your RP on me" contingent will begin to squeal.

Re: POS conquest

The POS had one atraction that Jumpgate classic didnt use much, or at all. The POS was a privately owned hanger..ok good, but it needed MEANING. Why own something to stack stuff in?? So I suggest we make the old idea of pos different. It must have a purpose, not ego building, but weapon or ship building. It can have a factury inside it, with Blue Prints you can buy, depending on your experience and faction. Then the owner could mine for materials, and open the factury to anyone willing to pay his price for whatever he makes. There would have to limits of course, and a Pos/ factury would have to be damagable, but not destroyaable, and I'd limit it to AI attacks. After all in RL why would you arrack the station whos supplying you weapons? It has an auto defence system, probably turrets and an alarm, sysytem telling the whole faction its being attacked. So a risky business all around. But pos facturys would have to be attackable by AI...it if wasnt how could you possible think in a time of war facturies were not attacked to stop production, but we would limit the attack not to destroy it, maybe siege the station and leave patrols there to stop people from getting in.. just an Idea..I hated having to fly all over known space carrying mats to one spot to manufacture, it didnt make any sence and didnt work well.
