I wish I desperately wish that the radars are changed in Jumpgate Evolution.

I hope that Scorch and company can give us a sneak peek or tell us about the new radar features

Just be glad you had targets to scroll through! "Wadda ya want? Eggs in your beer?"

Re: Radar

Well, the real trick is how the game is supposed to figure out who your "enemies" are with multifactional squads, and non-factional/inter-factional warfare. Ideally, the game should automatically know who your enemies are so you can just target them in combat, but as Jumpgate Classic is now, that's very difficult.

I remember part of the skill in Jumpgate Classic was being really fast at cycling through all the targets in the sector and being able to unconsciously note all the friendly/foe targets and their relative vectors in a few seconds. Then you already knew which friendly was about to die or which enemy to take down first (that idiot way out in front perhaps...).

It would be nice if it was easier, but I got really good at the old way so I don't mind as much.

Re: Radar

Good grief Aphelion! No wonder I have such lousy kill/death ratios. I was always too busy trying to line up a shot to pay attention to what everyone else was doing...until it was too late! Darned multi-tasking (sigh).

I have basically stopped playing since the lag problems. I have 2 different ISP's now and have the same probs on both.
Having problems targetting objects has always been a pain, one which can be overcome in many ways by player adaptability. Ain't nothing I can do about lag.

Al

Re: Radar

I enjoyed thoroughly being killed last night by an OV who wasn't on my radar. Doesn't stop me from playing.

What was intriguing was the conversation with Jimac (thanks Jim) that followed, it actually shed some light into how screwey things are.

From what I experienced, starting from 9k away, OV and QH vectored each other, I shot One on the way through to shooting Jim, Jim turned so I didn't yet and extended, I think on maybe 30-50s. As we separated from the pack, Jim and I alone while other red dots on the edge of radar and I had recharged 100, I turned back to shoot him, he shot back. I saw the first ammo shots coming in and my shields started dropping.

As I passed Jim, my shields almost zero, I thought "crikey, bad pass that was", continued to extend, noticing Jim turning around at about 2.4k, extending to 3.2k, during this distance extending, my armor was being knocked down, I reacted evasives. It continued to get knocked down, and I was thinking "wtf is this ammo aim from 3k". I died.

Ok so no probs, until I saw the message ... killed by Grimbergn. Wierd.

Then Jimac F4d me and said Grimbergn was surprised he killed me, as he hadn't shot at me for ~2 mins.

So IIRC when my armor was being knocked, it was in chunks, at the end I think it was 3 distinct amounts fast, about 0.3s.

Now that means Grim shot me early in the fight, and for some reason those shots counted when he was off my radar, and I had been registering hits from Jimac.

Personally, I can't remember any time when Jimac had stripped all my shields in one pass, especially with ammo, could have been coincidence, but I think it is more likely that Grims shots were counting aswell.

The server was finally receiving info from my client that I had been hit, and I guess it was checking my client "hey client I have these other hits from 2 mins ago, client responds yes they hit, ok strip the damage now please, client says ok hes actually dead now that I have deducted the damage".

Great. But have to live with it Funny death thinking about it now, at least we spanked OV in 4v4 after it win some lose some.

Yes Al I concur with player adaptability, but dont you agree what a bloody pain in the arse it is to scroll thru tons of crap and/or only being able to lock on only one target versus multiples?

Its a pain and does not enhance the PVP experience. Rather, it inhibits the PVP experience and encumbers all pilots.

Re: Radar

The radar does need to be changed to take into consideration multiple targets but I still feel that a good pilot will find a way to cope. Personally I target almost exclusively with "target last aggressor" and "target with testicle(reticle)".
Maybe some sort of exclusively combat setting with the option of changing to a non combat setting would be nice. But that would open up a whole can of worms.

@Gent. I don't play because I don't like to die against what I feel are inferior pilots. I also don't like people having an excuse when I kill them other than my skill. This isn't a pissing contest, you want to try and earn points feel free to start a different thread.

Regards
Al

Re: Radar

@Al: I don't have a problem with being killed by inferior pilots. I also don't care what "they think" is their excuse for dying. They die or I die. Piss by yourself if you want a pissing contest, I wasn't looking for one. I dont want yours, theirs or anyones points.

The fact that you don't play because of lag, I understand to a certain extent, just does sound a bit like a temper tantrum to go that far into not playing. But then WE are two very different people.

I was commenting especially to the lag problem, I couldn't care about the 20 other threads that bore the crap out of me about "How people complain about lag", so I haven't commented much in other threads.

Your comment got my attention, because I would rather see YOU playing than not.

Re: Radar

To all:

I am starting to see the lag issue that our overseas comrades have been complaining about. Now it is starting to affect US players.

I wonder what the hell is going on? Its like a creeping doom of sorts. It seems to be growing and growing worse everyday.

*apology in order*

I apologize if I hinted or insinuated or insulted our foes regarding the lag issue. There is clearly a problem: they were right and I was wrong.

I believe this is because Jumpgate determines hits on the clientside, not on the server. (really bad bad bad bad bad design btw.) We used to have players who would purposely create lag on their connections since it would give them an advantage in PvP (all due to bad design. Did I say that already?)

So if you want to be a PvP god, launch Bittorrent and pirate some movies of the web while fighting. I guarantee you will do much better!

I'm hoping they fix this for Jumpgate Evolution.
