Yes. No. I strongly suspect this is the kind of thing that would not get into the intial release, but could be a "cool new feature" in an early upgrade patch.

Yeah. Based on recent releases on the approach to mining, to keep this in, you'd have to made the debris a replacement for the curent pure roids" and have them pop when they are mined out.

I think the problem you would have with moving roids is that you also would need to implement gravity on all planets and suns to keep things real.
That would mean a very complex program that have to calculate maybe billions of perimeters per second which would lead to we all would need supercomputers.

How 'bout this?

Replace the pures with moving roids. But instead of spawning X distance from the 0 gate, have it spawn way out in the sector and slowly move toward the 0 gate in an arc, where it would eventually orbit the gate at X distance, until it's popped and then the next one comes in. They could have it come in randomly on 1 of a few (pick a number) possible preset paths, that way collisions with buildings/other roids wouldn't be a problem.

Maybe a little trickier than the straight-line comet idea, but not as ambitious as belts/ricochets/rubble. Hell... I'd even settle for just a single arc in and back out, without orbiting the 0 gate.
