Keep it.

If too many people spending time in the SIM versus "real space" (LOL funny term for an online game) is an issue, then we should examine more compelling reasons to get them into real space.

It's too handy of a training tool to be done away with and really is a strong tool for testing different loadouts of which the items may not be readily available to test with in real space anyhow.

FYI, removing features is a shoddy way to design an expansion.

Guys, they aren't going to be killing the newtonian physics design. If they did, they'd know that they'd be alienating 90% of us, and since they're focusing on the fansites, my guess is they want to keep that core gameplay intact, except with an actual game AROUND it now, and enough players to make it work.
