Search for Map
How about adding a search box for the map, when you put in a sector name (or anything else in said sectors maybe) It will make the sector you want glow. Then maybe a button to set quickest route waypoints automatically.

Re: Search for Map
ONLY if you have found it first. I've enjoyed the many quiet nights mining with my teammates and so much glad that most of our data isnt available in jgrotpro and such, so I would hate to see people coming to my place just because they found it on the search.
Faction space is one thing, unreg is another, thats what i mean. Also, like buttons, if you've never been there you shouldnt be allowed to find it (unless a friend tells you). ELP |

Re: Search for Map
Faction stations and government operated buildings I'm ok with having searchable. Searching for POS from the map might be overdoing it a little bit. I'm definitely on board with having sector names highlight when 'searched' for.

Re: Search for Map
Regular map feature searches would be fine. I've spent tons of time trying to find a particular sector and the search feature would be neat.
What Elpirata says is important as well, but I'm not sure how applicapable the threat would be. Okay, you have a private list of locations for your mining events, or your POS sites, but I don't see how the search feature would affect that. You either have the coords or not. If you have them, you equip a rotacol and go there. So unless someone hacks your squad site, or you tell them, how would they know what/where to ask for? "Buttons" was a good example, but I'm not sure how it would be a feature on any kind of map. Since it covered a good deal of space, even giving rotacol coords would be of limited use. |

Re: Search for Map
Well, for a more detailed example. I love my roids, and I dont want others to be around. For the most part, most of our squad roids arent on the jgrotpro database, meaning that you'd need to come by and do a Eye mk1 recon in sector and note the ones which are worth it.
I personally was happy that jgrot didnt have my roids there, and as such, nobody would come because the sector had no known desirable stuff. If this is not going to appear when you do a search like Inner Storm - rad roids, then Im fine with it. After all, Im a bit aggresive miner, meaning if I see other folks in there I tend to spook them out, even more if they are known folks who do recon in many places and after that they add that data to the myrotacol site/jgrot. In this case, my roids are valuable to me. Launching from my pos to go and get mining and then notice that my roids are blue... not a good sight. If people dont know about them... they wont come and happy mining for me, see? Now, as you say, if in the off hours somebody has been there and done a search and noted the coords, it would be pretty logical that these could be available to the rest of their squad mates, and then Im forced to take action after I see them. Buttons can be a bad example because many of us know about it and its mostly a landmark and landmarks... are well known by everyone. I wouldnt oppose landmarks as long as these are in either factional space (whichever) or visible in trade lanes. Roid formations deep in sector shouldnt be part of the search feature (unless a squadmate) as a fellow pilot had to do the search first. I hope Im more clear now... ELP |

Re: Search for Map
I wouldn't even see a search function as even searching for roids elp. That would probably put undue strain on the server, having to go dig through oodles of roid info. Now, doing things like, CC's nifty rollover map, where it would list CPs, repair facilities and stuff like that, I'd totally be up for it. How often have we been like, "Where is the CP for this again?"

Re: Search for Map
hmmm..Cpt_Blood has an idea but instead of "shared" let's replace it with "Sold" thus making exploring a profitible occupation.
I understand what you are saying Elpirata and I agree wholeheartedly! No "rad roids" in "Oct Shores" searches. No roid searches at all, other than what is already in squad or MyRotacol databases. dial's, divers and Istan's modifications are all excellent too. net, you did GOOD! |
