Re: Ship Collisions: Yes or No?
well if your looking for realism then ship collisions are necessary, like gate collisions and station colisions. If your here to make it easier on yourself, then you wont like it, thats true. But if we can just ask and get what ever we want from life, (here or there) then I want to be indestrutable, both here aND THERE...LOL if you can pick and choose then your not as good as you think you are. realism is tough for sure, but thats the way we would have to do it if we lived here, and isnt that why we play, to think for a little whilw we're somewhere else?

Re: Ship Collisions: Yes or No?
pvp in close proximity, where ships would bounce off each other unpredictably would increase skill and decrease the dependency on fast turning/accelerating ships existing in physically impossible blind spots created by passing though their opponents.
So yeah, Im in favour of solid hulls. |

Re: Ship Collisions: Yes or No?
I have to go with No as well. I think the main issue will be the number of ships around. Obviously we all hope Jumpgate Evolution is a smashing success and the online numbers are ridiculous. On top of that you have all the AI ships flying around. There was a writeup from someone talking about one of the station sectors and they talked about how busy it was with all the AI. With all those ships, it would just be pure hell around gates and any other point of coalescence.
Also, as already mentioned a few times, I think the potential for abuse is also extremely high and I can't imagine a system that would be a balance for it. |

Re: Ship Collisions: Yes or No?
If I remember correctly they tried this in JGclassic beta. If 2 ships are in the gate at the same time there is a good chance one will be pushed into a petal.
There was something going on at Hyp. and a group of us jumped in and it was like bumper cars in the gate. I got petaled. |

Re: Ship Collisions: Yes or No?
Yeah, I remember that. It didn't work before and it sure won't work with even more people in the game.

Re: Ship Collisions: Yes or No?
I think it would be really neat, and add an interesting twist to the game. With that said, it will not work with Jumpgate in its current form at all. With everyone in a sector traveling to a single point, and with stations having only one point of ingress/egress, you are constantly put in a position of collision due to code simplicity. If you rework the jump/docking/launch concepts to better facilitate ships not being on top of each other, it would really enhance the experience.
Please note that shield and armor strength, as well as mass and the vector from which you approach would greatly determine the outcome. Also, some ships would have to be reworked, and I think you would have to have some sort of insurance penalty or something for a kamikaze hit into another ship. But it would be neat. ![]() |

Re: Ship Collisions: Yes or No?
Ships should bounce off of each other ,changing both ships trajectory, and do some shield damage. If 1 ship has no shields then it should take armor and system damage.
The amount of bounce and damage should take speed and mass into account. A ligt fighter hitting a heavy freighter wouldnt move the freighter but the light fighter might bounce like a tennis ball off a wall. I just think reality in physics should be in the game. |

Re: Ship Collisions: Yes or No?
Well, with all of you wanting ship collisions in-game, I'm gonna start a griefer account and bump ships as they pass stations.
