Ship Collisions: Yes or No?

It would change Jumpgate as we know it I think, but I'd like to try it.

Re: Ship Collisions: Yes or No?

I see one big problem with this. In jumpgates you are usually quite close to each other. There would be alot of bumping even if they changed the spawn code to something more random than spawning at 0 distance in the gate.

On the route between Jumpgates (I guess there will still BE Jumpgates... at least the name of the new game strongly indicates so ) the collisions would be easier to avoid and less of a problem, even fun to some degree. But jumping in a sector and instantly going boom isn't what I call fun, even if it might be "more realistic". Then if you throw in some collision safe zone around gates... It's becoming complicated already, I don't know if it is worth the coding time.

Re: Ship Collisions: Yes or No?

I voted yes because the concept is good IMO. Being able to actually blockade a station is something i would like to see however, i think its moot. Everything i have seen and heard tells me that there will never be collisions in Jumpgate.

To Vomir: apparently Jumpgates are now huge.I'd like to see collision turned on for Beta and see how it goes. Almost anything that adds realism is ++ for me.

Re: Ship Collisions: Yes or No?

I think it would depend on the effects of the collision.. are we talking about a couple of % shield damage, and a bit of a trajectory change? Or are we talking about some potentially massive damage and accompanying vector adjustment?

Re: Ship Collisions: Yes or No?

collision off to members of your own faction ( and an option to turn off collision for people you know from another faction? ). and if they will implement it i would say we only take a small % of the shields off when hitting other ships.

Exactly, I think Beta is the time to try it, and see what can be done.

Well for civvies, it would be a "bump/bounce" with some shield damage, for fighters with special "attack" shielding it would cause massive damage.

Too convoluted, the whole faction based rules and whatnot....

Of coarse I would imagine an "impact sensor" warning system to help people from colliding.

Coarse
1. composed of relatively large parts or particles: The beach had rough, coarse sand.
2. lacking in fineness or delicacy of texture, structure, etc.: The stiff, coarse fabric irritated her skin.
3. harsh; grating.
4. lacking delicacy, taste, or refinement; unpolished: He had coarse manners but an absolutely first-rate mind.
5. of inferior or faulty quality; common; base.
6. vulgar; obscene; crude: His coarse language angered us.
7. (of metals) unrefined.
8. (of a metal file) having the maximum commercial grade of coarseness.
