Re: Ship standard equipment...
When you are keeping track of multiple targets in a place like quant core, your sense of movement is pretty out of wack because of the constant turning, a lot of low speed drift isn't noticed and you smack into a roid or the station without even knowing where you are going, and thats with the arrow. I learned very early on that watching your actual directions is very important lol
How about something like "starfleet navigation" where there is a radar showing some kind of 3d grid system that somehow shows your direction and speed as well...dunno just brainstorming. They used the holodeck as insperation for quicktime 3d ![]() |

Re: Ship standard equipment...
I'd venture to guess the people testing have also played the star wars console games, in which 3rd person view is the default...and it is pretty easy to tell where you're going from behind yourself.
Though, to be fair, with a better radar, a lot of the hud would be extraneous. |

Re: Ship standard equipment...
I just think about being deep in a sector and trying to tell someone else how to come to me. The scenario usually involved trying to "vector" in a short-radar-range fighter to my HM or Ranger, where I could see him, but he couldn't see me. How do you say "up" or "left" without referants? Even if I had a rotacol, the fighter usually didn't.
Some kind of compass where you could say "I'm to your Galactic Northwest about 40k on heading 270" or if the rotocal was built in, you could just give your current coords and even if you were out of range, it would give your helper a proper heading to follow. Think also of a long range scout, working far from a gate or other landmark within the other ships radar range. I think this would be a good addition to the game. If it was built in, perhaps you could have a toggle to turn it off and "clean up your HUD". |

Re: Ship standard equipment...
Well, with a Flash based HUD you could hit a switch to bring it to the front and center of your display.

Re: Ship standard equipment...
Ok, I saw this post and thought maybe you meant standard equipment mounted on ships you buy. I see its mostly (right now ) about hud improvements and nav. I was wandering if it wouldnt be good for all ships to have basic systems installed. Like a basic mining beam on a beginner miner, or basic lasers on a low level fighter, no upgraded stuff, just beginner equipment in case your low on funds and can use it some a little while till you make more. With the new AI and other improvements, it might be very possible to actually run out of money in bad sectors. Not being able to mine or hunt fast enough to keep you bank acount going..so basic cheap equipment on every new ship would help.
