Ship standard equipment...

I wonder if Jumpgate Evolution will bring basic needs back to the pilot ships. I mean, the HUD should have a way to measure the sector in some sort of way. I remember in plane games, like falcon 4.0 and such, you have a 'heading' to go to whenever Awacs tells you that there's enemy they tell you where to head towards, and using the HUD you just adjust your plane heading till its basically what they told you to go to.

Even if you simply are goofing around and do loops and rolls, the HUD has a numbering system that allows you to know how many degrees up or down your going to, as well as a HUD animation of the movement. I sometimes get lost in Jumpgate when doing a loop and such.

Combat ships should have a camera and a targetting computer always built in, and in cargo/mining Id think that at least the camera should be there, and if this HUD was much like a plane sim.... a rotacol could be a more advanced feature that it could also store your favorite patterns on it (if we're going to get some 3rd party addons now native in Jumpgate Evolution... this should be one I think).

I know there's more... but its near to 1am and after some week plus without Jumpgate Im not exactly... sane.

I know what you are saying, however if you use the tools in Jumpgate Classic, you have speed, distance, so thats already there. I do agree it needs a little livening up to make it more noticeable. There were many great player created huds that helped with that.

I know what you mean. The easiest way to get that feeling is to be in big dogfights using quant core as "cover" its easy to loose track of a roid or the station when you are doing all that turning trying to fire on people. If Jumpgate Evolution can have some sort of system that warns or makes you more aware of your exact position, movement, direction, that would be fantastic and extremely helpful in PvP situations.

Alot of time in PvP the fights would always end up in the middle of nowhere and I think that is partly because people didn't want to hit objects. I mean think of how many times you saw people splash on beacons while trying to fight around gates.

I'm not sure. There was that added skill of learning to fight without the duelist. It gave you an advantage because you could use another modx. I really liked that, and I think it should be kept.

Maybe a 1 modx combo for mining that has all the popular stuff like camera, rotocal, maybe even other mining upgrades. Leaves room for more FFs so you can get moving better when extremely heavy.

Another great post man

Re: Ship standard equipment...

Thanks

BTW I mentioned the duelist mostly because an advance fighting platform should have one, just because it is. But somehow... I know what you mean and quite frankly... I avoid using duelists too, unless Im using ammo raven and strakers suck so I have to hit something at least once or twice

Not sure if many here remember Mig 29 Fulcrum, I still have it. Once thing I remember (this one was from Novalogic and they also had the F16 and F22 and you could do multiplayer with all 3 games) and perhaps anyone can correct me, but the Mig had analog gauges and radars looked basic compared to the F16's MCD (not the HUD, but the small display that's part of the cockpit).

Far as I remember, the F16 there had a radar (doh) but not as deep looking as the basic looking radar the Mig had, which far as I remember it had a range of 80nm. The F16 was shorter (at least in game).

Novalogic also made the cockpit details for the F16 look more neat whereas the Mig 29 hud was weird, you couldnt see them analog gauges from close where in the F16 you could.

I know, derailing off topic.... lol

PS: Goes to moderate himself.

Yes, I had talked about wanting more in cockpit instruments and a more finished feel in another thread when the trackIR demos of other games really looked awesome

Re: Ship standard equipment...

I lost all my old flying games when our house got vandalized a couple years ago. *sob

The combat ships having targeting stuff is intriguing. You see this type of idea as a definite sentiment in many threads.

Maybe combat ships should have combat stuff, mining ships should have mining stuff and hauling ships should have hauling stuff. Then if you wish to use the ship for something other than it's designed for you would have to mod (modx) it and of course, there is a price to pay for that.

But then, what if you aren't happy with the targeting system? Or the mining laser, etc?

You've got to live with it. We had to live without it, and none of us have any say whatsoever (RP Wise) on how our factions design and build our ships.

Re: Ship standard equipment...

"IT" of course has to be the equipment the game gives you and it's functionality.

I like the "combat package", "mining package" ideas and have suggested them as combined modexs several times. The idea that the basic ship would come with these packages BUILT IN is just great!

Re: Ship standard equipment...

We never really got a good sense of speed vs heading with the arrow system in Jumpgate Classic. It is something we are looking at but right now, we just don't display anything and people seem to get it. Maybe in this case less is more.

You mean in Alpha build you are flying without the hud/interior? Kind of like a bumper cam in a racing game?

I really think that could be a great twist to it, especially if you are going to add the 3rd person as well.

Then the the actual display of information can be set in a preference system with some binds to allow a few configurations.
