Re: Ships and the Technology tree
I like seing totally new ships, but I feel that its kinda nicer if we dont just throw away what we have but add to it, we have more ships in the end is what I mean.
When Jumpgate started, we had the shuttle, LF, HF (Nix used to be the heavy fighter), Tow, Tranny and the other shuttle (dont remember which one though). The rest of the ships came later as FM results and such. ELP |

Re: Ships and the Technology tree
Here's what I would suggest: In my backstory concerning the galaxy, we were pushed out of our old faction spaces by the conflux, which now occupy the center of our universe, including nearly all of our "old" home sectors. We flew outward and apart until no faction was in contact with any other faction...or the conflux. We fled so precipitiously that much was lost or left behind, including the ability to manufactor numerous ship types. We were only able to take a few basic ship types with us.
Now decades or even centuries later we have built up our few "core" faction systems, and are in the process of dragging our technology back up from what it was immediately after the Exodus. Some of our "evolution" is merely regaining what we had, then adding on knowledge gained with found pre-collapse artifacts as well as new development and technologies found since the Exodus. We are in the process of trying to contact the other factions, who have all changes much in the tribulations since the Exodus. Different technologies have been discovered and adapted by each (see above). We are also ready to go back and take our sectors back from the Conflux. They ran us off once before. Now we're coming back and we aren't taking any prisoners! My concept would have built-in unreg between all the factions. Only a few core systems would be linked into any form of regulated space. Much lawlessness and danger would exist outside the core systems... as well as much opportunity! OOC: the Devs are obvioulsy coming up with "new" ship concepts based on the released art if nothing else. Did it "evolve"? |

![]() +1 for factions not being connected by regulated space. Back story is good, not sure they will take it though, some how I think they want to come up with that on their own. |

Re: Ships and the Technology tree
Based on the bits and pieces we have all seen I suspect theere will be sweeping changes to ships, stations, etc. I'd like to hope there was some backstory explanation, but who knows? With the changes we have already seen, the backstory would have to include some major upheaval or significant passage of time.
The alternative would be to treat it as a "do-over" based on original backstory, since most of the player base should be unfamiliar with Jumpgate Classic (assuming a well-marketed launch and subscription numbers with at least 4 zeroes). |
