Ships and the Technology tree
As much as I'd like to see many ships available in Jumpgate Evolution... Id say that we just need a couple to start with, then have the other probables not shown untill some missions (like MT espionages) and space exploration (arti hunts) are completed.
Im sure station can track DSS sales, which are basically dumped by everyone on the Jumpgate Classic (unless you're making a collection). Jumpgate Evolution technology tree could grow in this or that direction depending on the work of the military espionages and the exploration/gathering of DSS (sold to stations). Then, as goals are reached, a ship blueprint is designed, bla bla bla, the old FM comes..... and voila... new ship. Id also hope for revisions to current hardware, like a way to make the Nix faster (not by much) as a result of stealing quantar technology, for example. Main idea is to tie the loose ends, MT espionage is completed but nothing happens, DSS' are sold, but nothing happens, no matter how much DSS we gather or how many espionage missions are completed, there's nothing of value going out of those, therefore, the idea is for finding a way so that those make sense. Giving all the ships and making them available leave zero room for these findings to be brought in, unless they come in like ship revisions (Nix MK2, or whatever). Ok, time to duck... or hide under the table.... Yes, here comes.... !!!!!ELP |

Re: Ships and the Technology tree
YES! I love the tech-tree concept, and always thought it should be part of the FM process. Give multiple FM opportunities: what do you work on first, a big cargo ship, a specialty mining ship, a new power-plant or a new much more effective missile?
Factions could evolve differently based on choices and balance of power could ebb and flow as differing decisions are made. |

Re: Ships and the Technology tree
On it's face it's ok. However, this is Jumpgate Evolution and there is just no logical reason why the ship situation would be less than what it was before.

Re: Ships and the Technology tree
I think it's an awesome idea! But i feel soooo sorry for the forum mod's who have to police those discussions. Can you even imagine how many flame wars that would start? haha!

I thought a great way to do the next phase of Jumpgate would be to use an "aftershock" from The Great Collapse -- my name suggestion was Jumpgate: Aftershock. But I guess ND has had enough of post-apocalyptic game stories for the time being ![]() |

Re: Ships and the Technology tree
That negates the EVOLUTION theme. My expectation is that what was once an artifact is now established technology.
A post apocalyptic story line would be a skipping record. Time to move on. On a side note, if you like post apocalyptic story lines then I suggest BioShock. |

Re: Ships and the Technology tree
evolution: (1) a process of change in a certain direction
Evolution means change, but not always in a desirable direction. It is a process of natural selection that can result in improvement, but can also result in something that is ultimately less desirable than its predecessor. Evolution is also strongly tied to environment. When an organism "evolves" to adapt to one environment, its specialization for that environment can lead to its extinction should the environment change -- whereas something less evolved and less specialized survives (see cockroach). |
