Did you mean that there would be intersector gates and innersector gates to go to various points in the sector or a jump drive system?
Kind of yes. The theory being Jumpgate do not function well the closer they are to a gravitational source like a sun. So once in a system you need to take smaller hops. And this could be laid out as planet to planet.

So if you jumped into our Sol System you would have to jump inwards till you reached Earth or mars or the asteroid belt or whatever planet.

Re: Solar Systems in Jumpgate Evolution

So how many gates are you thinking a sector would have? Would gates outside a certain range no longer show up?

Sorry just trying to wrap my head around this and figure out if it is like EvE system, or something entirely new.

Re: Solar Systems in Jumpgate Evolution

Haven't really thought it through that far. As stupid a game as it was, that's one thing I liked about Earth & Beyond beta. If you were around Earth you could gate to the Moon, or to Mars, etc. Their implementation sucked and was hard to figure out but the idea was cool.

People always say that sectors need content. Well, what more natural way than this?

Can you imagine blockading a whole Solar System?

I can't help with the Eve comparison as I never played it. If I had my new system earlier I may have.

You didn't miss much

I'd like to see NetDevils take on this idea to see how they stand.

I like more Sector highways(Freelancer style) then gate jumping inside sector..

Re: Solar Systems in Jumpgate Evolution

havent you played freelancer? Try it, its good..

In this video you see a ship in the begining jumping inside one of those gates.. his ship speeds up and he can travel great distance inside a sector in short time, much faster then just flying your ship from planet to planet..

Re: Solar Systems in Jumpgate Evolution

I see what you mean now. Having an intersector Jumpgate, and an innersector slipgate.

Seems like a pretty easy way to implement fast straight line flight to "known" areas.

However I think people want it to be more versatile than that, they want to get deep into space anywhere so they can look around the "unknown" places.

So maybe the slipstream and jump drive would allow that, but again, not sure how ND would want to do it.

Re: Solar Systems in Jumpgate Evolution

when did they ever actually say that our speed is officially 'meters per second'? it is 'unknown units per second'.

Your right, I just use meters to make it easy to understand. It could be clicks, or miles, or some random RP word that was never thought up

Knocker Radar:

I guess the m is for meters..
