The future is EVE!:P of course it is... but its a boring future.. Just wait and see.. In 50-80 years all cars will be computercontrolled. We will be missing the days when you could spin around.. burnout your tires.. And crash your car intentionally..

anyway.. I dont need realistic.. I need fun,.

Re: Solar Systems in Jumpgate Evolution

I play the X series of games a lot. They have a flight physics more like aircraft. The newtonian physics we have here wouldnt allow docking a battleship to an external docking port on a station. When asked on the forums what real physics was like they said after 1000 years flying ships in space that WAS real. The bugs were squashed and the flights were smooth. I had a nice conversation here with a senior player who said if the technology was there to make you fly without reverse thrusting and such, he'd ignor it..cause he would be too good to use it. Thats cool..if thats what you want but the average pilot WOULD use any help we could give him ot her. The speed we travel at in Jumpgate would severely limit our ability to explore. So even with bigger systems, we'd need some way to do short hops or acellerate our ships for short distances. Its all in the future and in the technology.

Re: Solar Systems in Jumpgate Evolution

You know, when reading Sci-Fi "sectors" frequently had more than one Solar System with various numbers of planets, asteroid belts, moons, etc involved. Sectors were areas of space or sometimes they were governmental jurisdictions. "The Capellan Sector" "The Centauri Sector" etc. So yeah, I can see Jump's idea of making space bigger but with the same number or fewer sectors. I can even understand the mini-gates or mini-jumps. Two stage drives or more. A JumpGate mechanism for the sector gates, hyper-engines for cross sector, straight line high speed travel, main engines for cross system travel and thrusters for fine manuvering near stations, etc.

All I really care about is the content. Doesn't matter if space is 1,000,000,000 (insert favorite unit of distance measurement), if there's nothing there, and no reason to go there, what does it matter? Currently we go from gate to gate unless we are arty hunting. Even the roids are seldom very far out from the beaten space lanes.

Re: Solar Systems in Jumpgate Evolution

I think thats the point. They want every sector to have a certain number of "things" out there. They want entire new areas to be opened up in the sector level, more stations, more mine fields, more arty areas, more everything.

Then they want some way to get to those deep areas. In other words they want EVERYTHING spread waaay out, so when you jump into a sector you have to decide if you want to go deep and find something, or fly through nothing to the next gate and go to the next sector.

At least thats how I see it

Thread re-railing is against the Laws of Physics. You cannot stop Brownian motion from increasing the entropy of the thread. Eventually, you should just get random letters and symbols.

Re: Solar Systems in Jumpgate Evolution

Probably this is the point where the Infinite Improbability Drive should be mentioned as an option.

Well, first thing I need now is some kind of Brownian Motion producer. As soon as I'm confidend that enough normality is restored I may think more thoroughly about the things filling most of the posts before page 4.
