I'd like to see Jumpgate Evolution take a lesson from CoH with making the appearance of ships customizable. I see little reason why we wouldn't be able to custom color our ships, even dark-space black, as the universe looks entirely multicolored in the screenshots i've seen. Heck, black might even make you stand out more.

Anyway, in CoH when you form a supergroup (like a squad in Jumpgate) you pick 2 colors and a logo. When people join your group they get a new costume they can switch and and out of by toggling a supergroup mode. At any time they can go in and edit the colors of their costume using a combination of their original colors and the supergroup colors.

For example, if I made a superhero that looked like a wasp using yellow and black, and joined santa's helpers supergroup with colors green and red, I could make any yellow part on my costume red or green, and so on.

Similarly, when entering supergroup mode you have the option of displaying the SG symbol or hiding it.

Since it's been done by another MMO, I can't imagine this sort of thing would be that difficult to do in Jumpgate Evolution, and while I don't think we should be able to change paint-jobs in flight like you can do with costumes in CoH, being able to have an entire squad use the same paintjob would be really really vulcan cool.

I will have to disagree on ship coloring. The PvP implications are absurd (IMO). But I love the idea of certail allowable "general" customizations plus, perhaps, squad-customizable wing decals.

maybe the whole ship doesnt have to be colored but only some highlights of the ship just to have an unique look. when one of the devs was asked about avatar customization, as much as they wanted to talk about they couldnt yet, im sure it could be something like this. logos and emblems etc on the ships wouldnt be that hard to include in game either methinks. ( guild tabards in WoW? )

i would perfer just custom logos at a limited size. it should be approved by the gms so not so suitable content slip through to actually be seen in game.

I disagree Ambro, I think ship coloring is very possible, and will add a whole new depth to ship customization. If certain colors are "hard to see" then those colors can be taken away from the color choices.

And I really like the idea of a squad logo on the wings, however thats where I see a problem, someone will have to sort through these to make sure they are not "inappropriate"

In COH there was a page full of logos to choose from that were pre-made. ND could do something similar...and, by the way, it'd be absolutely awesome if they allowed Jumpgate Classic players to submit some squad logos that might make it into the game (as some contest or something, so it doesn't count as us working for them)

Preselected logos are great an all, but what if 2 squads try to use the same one, does the system reserve if on a first come first serve basis, or do you allow 2 squads to have it, and then possibly cause a fight between them?

As far as the contest idea goes, thats also a great idea, I might even try to make a little something something, even if I'm not the best with photoshop

look at WoW's way where you can customize the color of the icon, outline, and background. thousands of combinations so there wouldnt be a problem there imo.

Id go with any type of customization as long as its approved by ND.
