Re: station avatar
I never had that problem. By the time I actually had the game loaded up, I was like "How do I get out into space?" which was fairly self explanatory.
As long as they stress the "SPACE SIM" part in marketing, anyone who logs on will have a decent idea of what to expect. I never had a problem with Wing Commander or Xwing or any other space sim game from a lack of running around docking bays. why should Jumpgate be any different? |

Its not a problem, its just time for it. And dev-time-smeve time, good game is a good game no matter how long it takes, lets let them decide the time involved. People are more connected to avatars then thay are ship, want longevity of game? Give players avatars (Not just images See:EvE), and let them form relationships with others in game with the avatar as ...well...there avatar. Take a look at SWG:JTL, great game play, had avatars and player ship interiors and multi crewed ships. This dosn't mean you need to design an entire game around them, let them be fluff and social enabling feature, clothing emotes, gambling, etc.. anything more can be added as an expansion. (BTW, Wing commander Xwing wasn't a SIM game, they had atmospheric flight models, not to mentions wingcomander 3 and privitear, and freelancer allowed you to exit your ship, in a limited fashion, this should be expanded however, for a multilayer space and to facilitate social game play) |

Re: station avatar
I agree with Ike.
The actual gameplay of jumpgate in space should never change (first person view), but in a station, I see no reason not to be able to walk around talk with others, visit shops, talk to the guns dealer, propulsion engineer, factional leaders, news terminal, etc., etc. Your just making a bland user interface more alive and letting people socialize in a format that is more "human". Also, imagine how cool it would be to have your own shop in a factional station, maybe around a mall area. Hell put in a disco bar and dance the night away! LOL Fact is most gamers expect more now-a-days because of games like WoW, evercrack and others.. I cant see anything wrong with having this type of interaction in a station. I actually see only positives. |
