What I want is the ability to send a message to a player in game through "jossh"

That way when you look on the pilot list you can see who is on, select their name and select "start chat" and then a chat box opens on the page. You can now talk to that person and they can talk back on f4 (or hopefully in a new popup style in game chat system.)

A simple button like tilde can be used to slide these PMs in and out quickly. Perhaps a beep (optional) that announces a new message while in game.

Anyway, I would like chat in Jumpgate Evolution to be psychic-based, so that I could just think about middle finger, and a vision of a middle finger would pop up on my opponents screen. That would be cool.

In all seriousness, give it time, I've been reading stories about how monkeys are able to play basic games with only their brain. Its very possible this will become reality some day.

Found it, that search feature is great. But more on topic....

The chat system can also have more features:

Ability to see what sector a "Friend" is in.
Ability to group people together, IE chat rooms.
Perhaps even a "voice" option.

the chat system,you mean where someone not connected in the game can chat with someone connected? im a bit confused i've never used JOSSH.

Bingo.

The ability to use either a software or a webpage to chat with players who are currently in game. For steam, the ability is by running a systray app, where as for Jumpgate Evolution I was thinking if could be built in to JOSSH2

If you just built a way to log into the NetDevil forums from inside the game, you can accomplish this and have hosted forums for your squad from inside or outside the game.

Id suppose a feature like this could be troublesome if the pilot were to receive a 'window' everytime a user tried to contact him, it could interfere with the pilot ability into certain situations. I'd prefer a sound played when a message comes through (like in messenger) but the pilot then decides when to see it.

It would be great to have a built in Jossh browser, however if this is the way you want to go, then the "new Prive Message" features needs to have an in-game notification, some sort of beep, so people will know when they are being sent a message. Perhaps something would scroll through chat like "new PM"

I would love to be able to recieve/read pms while in game. The chat/sfx notifaction, and then a command to open it when you have a free moment sounds like a great way to implement it. Unfortunately, I really don't get many pms (or maybe that's a good thing).
