Re: Suggestion: Cockpit view locked
I recently played jumpgate with 3d lcd shudder glassed and it was perty darn cool (It was like my monitor was a window into real space!!), the cockpits were sweete in 3d but unfortunly like most games the interface are just 2d overlay elliments and don't work with the glasses (targeting and such). If Jumpgate Evolution supported the lcd glasses then the immersion of a cockpit would be to damn cool to turn off other wise there just in the way.,

Re: Suggestion: Cockpit view locked
If you press '6' on your keyboard, the view goes to the rear of the ship (chaser camera view). You are still fully in control of your ship, just no HUD.
The only problem comes in when you're flying a freighter. The external camera view is completely taken up by the arse of the ship. The camera angle doesn't go wide enough to see around the ship. Works much like you see in this video (linky click) at time stamp 0:28 to 0:30..... |

Re: Suggestion: Cockpit view locked
I think Injustice is refering to the inability of the HUD to render in 3rd person view. You really couldn't dock a ship in 3rd person so you can't call it "flying" can you?
I've always wanted to try those 3d glasses biteme was talking about but I hate how 2d elements won't render like crosshairs or ammo counters... Oh well. |

Re: Suggestion: Cockpit view locked
If ND wanted to aphelion, they could make all the GUI elements work with the glasses.
BTW the GUI doese render with the glasses but look likes there stickers on your monitor 2 feet away, the problem is your eyes are focused 1600 meters out at the nix comming at you so the GUI is out of focus, if you read the GUI the nix is out of focus. You can see the target reticals too but you have the same focus problem + there positioned wrong because your viewing in 3D and there being displayed in 2d. I wounder if any at ND ever tryed them.....hint hint. |

![]() Somewhat more seriously, even if the cockpit graphics were spiffied up from the rather uninspiring Jumpgate Classic cockpit graphics, forcing them to always be active would be a step backwards, IMO. Make them interesting enough to turn on for those who want to try, yeah, but removing the choice to try to force "immersion" (remembering you're not really wearing a spacesuit when sitting in front of a computer monitor and keyboard... You aren't, are you...? )? No thanks. |

Re: Suggestion: Cockpit view locked
We have spent a ton of time working on a nice external camera that works really well now. This will likely be the default view as it seems most users we talk to want to see their ship. Now for all the simulator fans, they will all be switching to first person right away. For joystick first person is much better as well.
