Suggestion: Cockpit view locked

Okay, I would like to make the cockpit HUD locked in Jumpgate Evolution, meaning that you cannot turn it off. I think having the cockpit HUD in flight sims adds a lot of realism, immersion and individuality between the ships.

Thankfully ND let us turn it off in Jumpgate Classic because the cockpit huds looked like ass. But, Im really hoping that they lock it this time, so that each ship has its own individuality. If they leave it optional people will just turn it off. So it should be locked, IMO.

What do you think, and please explain why you feel that way?

Its my understanding that there isn't even a cockpit view yet? So... this is more of a request to make sure they make a cockpit view?

I turn off the cockpit view whether it is 2d or 3d, snazzy or snot. If you want it IC'ly I use a vr headset to get rid of the distraction of the cockpit and ooc I want to see the picture not the frame.

So I'm a no to locking it.

Agreed, it would need to be a fantastic cockpit. Independence War 2 had a great one, which kept moving a little when you stopped moving. It didn't look painted onto your screen like the Jumpgate one did.

Agreed.

When i want to feel more immersion i turn it on, ion combat i turn it off because of the reasons stated above, both IC and OOC.

Yup yup. Those 'active' cockpits are cool, and it would take something that cool to make me wish i had less viewable area in front of me. Just throwing a static overlay on the screen doesn't a cockpit make, as it were.

Re: Suggestion: Cockpit view locked

Something to think about, is that everytime I launched I turned it off as well. However, in doing so, I lost the immersion factor of the ship Im in.. a premia looked the same as a tens. I really didnt feel like I was in a space craft, rather I felt like I was this eyeball running around in space.

I totally agree however, in order to lock them, they have to be some kick arse cockpits with the cool things like Liet stated. IW2 pits were awesome, how an exposion near by would shake the screen or how banking hard in any direction the pit would lead. It instantly sucked you in.

The only drawback is not having a somewhat obstructed view of the space in front of you, but I have to admit, that I really wouldnt mind if it was done right.. the immersion factor and looking forward to trying each ship would be fun.

I vote no. Regardless of how good it looks to someone, someone else may not like it at all. Don't force people to use it, give them the choice.

Re: Suggestion: Cockpit view locked

well, i'd like it if the cockpit was always on, providing that the cockpit displayed useful data and was as minimalist and focused on providing at much view space as possible. I prefer having the cockpit on in my games, as it does add to the immersion factor. but the Jumpgate cockpit are so fugly that I always turn it off... just because it's so god awfully ugly.

also i think people should specify 'cockpit' rather then saying 'HUD', as HUD means heads-up display... as in the text showing your radar and ship information.

Re: Suggestion: Cockpit view locked

should be player choice. Jumpgate's current cockpits are not only ugly, but they get in the way and do nothing more than just add a static bitmap in front of your screen.

Re: Suggestion: Cockpit view locked

I prefer an unobstructed view, so I always turn it off. If they make the cockpit so it adds to the information you receive somehow I might consider leaving it on. but it doesnt serve any real purpose to me.
