Re: Suggestion for dev and GM training for Jumpgate Evolution
Quote:
I don't expect Jumpgate Evolution to be Jumpgate Classic v2.0 - I expect it to be better! Jumpgate Classic had a lot of additions that were a direct result of community suggestions. Somehow-miraculously-the original jumpgate dev team listened to the community from time to time. |

Re: Suggestion for dev and GM training for Jumpgate Evolution
Along the lines of the thread I would think that the question has been wrongly asked....
Should be... How many GM or devs that work with Jumpgate Evolution have played Jumpgate Classic? Since inherently were asking them to play before they are controlling the community. I cannot say who is... but I know some have. ELP ![]() |

Re: Suggestion for dev and GM training for Jumpgate Evolution
It's not an assumption - I can tell they're not going in that direction. That's why I'm suggesting this, because the game we're headed towards is (whoever coined this term)'s WoWGate. (Actually, I think we're headed toward a game that already exists that I won't mention here. No, not EVE.)
Jumpgate had a poor launch and (relatively) weak lifetime because of its publisher and lack of advertising, not because of the game itself. Given both of those, as far as the MMO playing majority is concerned, a modern graphic'ed Jumpgate launching today would be a totally new game. Why mess with a system that mostly works already? |

Re: Suggestion for dev and GM training for Jumpgate Evolution
The only dev from Jumpgate Classic is Istvan. Scorch's involvement is at a high-level (idea-man), but Draker (Hermann) is running the project.
They are NOT making Jumpgate Classic 2.0 -- that is very clear. They a re making "A new MMO in the Jumpgate universe " as it says all over the place on the Jumpgate Evolution website. The DsD about the team is HERE (though more have been added since then). |

Re: Suggestion for dev and GM training for Jumpgate Evolution
Team looks good, at least. I've seen most of their work before, and the only possible thing you could say is making Auto Assault not run on any hardware.
Of course, they did a great job making it passable on just about any machine, so it certainly will be no Vanguard. (I can't think of any other horribly unoptimized game to use as an example here, someone help me out.)Why would they want to make a different game, though? Designing to "sell" (as they seem to be doing) is a downhill path - easy to start, and easy to hit the bottom. Making a game that's good stays in the same place forever, and can be "worked uphill"... |
