I really don't like the idea of fuel limitation because it's a realistic aspects that won't go well with this game. Imagine running out of fuel and your ship is stuck here, what is the only option available besides disconnecting? I need to do something better with time rather than sit there look at the stars and wait for someone to pick you up if there is such feature.

Same thing goes with flying in an heavy loaded cargo ship with all iron in cargo. People will usually have no choice but to disconnect and stay offline for 5 minutes if they ever get stuck in space like that.

As for the ship overheating type of idea it can be very complex if it goes beyond the gun heating limits.

Again for people that dont read all the posts in the thread, no one is suggesting you get stuck in space if you run out of fuel. You just would be moving much slower back to base / refuel pos. You would lose your manuverability to the point you would be a sitting duck in most cases.

Just popped in here to remind those that know and inform those that don't, that English is not Magnus's first language. Its one of four I know about. And he is not being rude. I''m a friend of his and that's how he speaks to me and the rest of his squadmates. He's direct because he can't be as subtle in English as in his own tongue, but if your not too culture blind you should be able to cope with that.

This thread is 4 months old. What is it you are responding to? I'm confused.

Re: Suggestion: Limited Fuel & Engine Heat

Not a problem. Just was wondering if some issue was raised somewhere else. Carry on.

Re: Suggestion: Limited Fuel & Engine Heat

Well what we could do to differentiate between cargo haulers and fighters could be a simple matter of the safety margin inherent within each class.

Also I would make it user modifiable for all ships.

Ie:

Fighter class ships : Automatically able to rev your engines up to 100% this would require the engine management facilities. Maybe even over 110, but permanent longterm damage to engine until it is repaired. Such as run it at 115% for two minutes, but after that 2 minutes, you can only apply 80%-90% power to the engine.

Miners/Cargo : Set it down at 80% power, however in these classes the pilot would be able to modify the safety limit. 100% for the short hauls, 90% for medium hauls. What would be neat would be also to figure mass into account for deceleration/acceleration with the safety margin. Ie: When coming in for a 0-0 stop approach you can alter the limit to 100%

Another factor to differentiate engines, is to give them different recommended safety margins, one might have more initial thrust but a pilot cannot run it over the margin for longer than a similar but different engine with less thrust, but higher top-end speed.

Obviously you would want to tie this into a system that allowed targetable subsystems. (Nailing those tows in the posterior could easily become a favorite past-time.)

That way carebears can still get the satisfaction of putting the throttle to full power, and another aspect, which carebear can fine tune their engine margins, so that they arrive at a station in the fastest possible time, just as their engine begins to lose power due to over heating.
